The education sector in India needs a complete make-over but the efforts till now seem to be half-hearted. Now, it seems that the steps being taken by HRD are actually regressive and take away the autonomy of the few govt. institutes which perform OK. Ofcourse, if its govt. money they can impose any restriction whatsoever but education sector would also get stifled in the same way as industrial development got stifled due to govt. intervention. HRD needs someone like Parrikar, who could bring in drastic changes and cut down size of the vested interests.
