We have been fed from childhood that Kerala has 100% literacy rate .Then what exactly kerala does of its high literacy rate ? It is neither a leader in auto, electronics, IT or textile industry in the country. Its per capita electricity consumption is 1/3 rd of Gujarat which is not "secular". So please don't take this article as anti-kerala and enlighten me how India benefits from Kerala's high literacy rate ?

Correct me if i have missed something.

100% primary literacy rate doesn't transalate into good graduate and post graduate literacy levels. That is the problem. And the root cause of that problem communism and the student politics rampant in the few colleges Kerala has.

100% primary literacy rate only gives you chaiwallahs who can speak English good.

If the political system is chnaged and the 100% primary literacy levels are transalated into decent graduate and post graduate levels you will have a different Kerala.

My god. Cant you people even take an objective criticism for what it is ?

Sure Tamil Nadu is not the land of milk and honey and we know it.

But the thread is about Kerala and given OPs name I doubt he is from TN. SO why not answer that question and rebutt mine's if there is something wrong in it.

The truth is communism and student poltiics have totally ruined Kerala's higher educaation system on the college and university level and that has had a domino effect on industries. Also again the communism inspired worker's union and their hartals/bandhs chased the indstry even further.

Only now things are slowly changing with SEZs in Cochin, TVM etc. Hope it continues.

    .

Understand what is being said.

I never said the 100% primary literacy level is a propaganda figure. On the contrary I just said the near universal primary enrollment does not get translated into comparable enrollment in higher education..meaning people complete their primary education and drop out preferring to go to gulf or something like that.

You dont have an inkling of what I say or what I mean.

The question is why inspite of universal Primary education Kerala lags behind in industries.

Answer : Neglect of higher education and the overarching commie influence in the form of student politics which ruin the few colleges. In the absence of a pool of skilled man power and union problems industries dont tend to come.

Regarding per capita income: take out the Mallus in gulf and you compare the SDP, you will see Kerala plummet to the bottom of the pool.

Answer the question instead of deflecting to some other point.

Why there are no industries in Kerala inspite of the universal access to primary education ?

Yeah its not the end and beginning when you have one family member in gulf per house hold.

Seriously you talk as if Kerala does not want industries as a state policy.

Enough of deflections. Just answer my points in 12 and 7.

Just so that you did not notice, the OP questions why inspite of the universal primarly education there are no industries in Kerala.? Read read read.

That is what this thread is about. Not if industries alone constitute development.

Our GDP does not include international remittances dude. Get an education!

I am not deflecting anything . You are the one basing your argument on economic prosperity = industrialization. That is incorrect. Mallus have found ways to remain prosperous without major industrialization. They have used their natural resources well and turn it into prosperity.

Despite all the heavy industrialization in TN, the GDP per capita is the same. It was the same 10 years back, it is the same today.

That is exactly why the SDP of Kerala is much lower than TN or Punjab or Haryana, its annual growth rate in the league of Bihar (or used to be..Bihar is developing pretty much fast now) while simultaneously boasting a good HDI .

Its the remittances that make the difference in Kerala, not industries.

Now again answer (which you are avoiding all along) why there are no or few industries in Kerala inspite of boasting a near 100% primary literacy rate ?
