Iranian opposition defies warning, calls for rally

Tehran: An Iranian reformist website says the opposition is defying a government warning and calling on people to stage a rally in solidarity with Tunisian and Egyptian protesters.

Kaleme.com published a statement today by a council of opposition groups inviting people to attend a peaceful rally tomorrow.

The opposition statement also accused the government of double-standards, by voicing support for Egyptian and Tunisian protesters while refusing to issue permission for Iranian political activists to stage a peaceful demonstration.

Last week, authorities rejected the opposition's request to stage the February 14 rally and warned of repercussions if it does.

Tehran's rulers crushed protests following the country's disputed 2009 presidential election. The opposition has not managed to stage protests in more than a year.

Just what I thought, its spreading its wings, I mean the so called Jasmine revolution. It fascinating to see how people identify with a common cause even though they are hundreds of mile away from each other, connected by the modern communication technologies.

This won't be pretty in Iran. Last time, the mulla brigade simply massacred Iranian protestors including someone managing to post the live video of a woman being shot point blank on her throat and she dying on the spot. Iranian regime is somewhat like Chinese CCP regime who will not hesitate to commit mass murders of their citizens in the blink of an eye, giving it the garb of "US spies" and in this case "Zionist plot". Just hope that Iranian people don't get shredded with bullets like last time post Ahmedinejad's elections.

Unless the Iranians take up arms and decide to strike fear in the hearts of mullahs, they will simply be slaughtered by the Revolutionary Guard.

The problem with Iran is their armed forces are die hard fanatics themselves, and owe their utmost sympathy to mullahs and the government which comprises of fanatics again and is lorded over by the Supreme Council, which was not the case with the Egyptian armed forces. So, if an uprising does erupt like before, I think it will be bloody affair since the mullahs and Ahmadinejad's government wouldn't think of giving up an iota of the total control they have over the nation even in their dreams.
