She needs to have a civil suit against the owner of the mining operation.

The tractor driver should be arrested and booked for murder.

The miner owner booked for illegal mining and held as an accomplice to the crime.

IPS officer crushed to death by mining mafia in Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL: A young Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Narendra Kumar was mowed to death on Thrusday afternoon as he tried to intercept tractor laden with illegally mined stones in Morena district -once again exposing the 'mafia like' mining network existing in Madhya Pradesh.

Kumar, an IPS officer of 2009 batch, was critically injured as he was crushed by the tractor and was rushed to a hospital but he succumbed to his injuries on his way to hospital, Deputy IGP (Chambal range) D P Gupta said.

Police said the IPS officer, who was recently posted as sub-divisional officer police (SDOP) of Bamor in Morena district bordering Uttar Pradesh, had rushed to the spot following a tip off about mining activities at an illegal stone quarry. As he tried to stop a tractor laden with illegally mined stones, the driver ran over him.

State home minister Uma Shankar Gupta and senior police officials have left for Morena to take stock of the situation, Gupta told reporters that strict action would be taken against the guilty and the government would continue its crackdown against illegal mining activities. He confirmed that the driver of the tractor has been arrested and a hunt has begun to arrest all those engaged in illegal mining activities at the stone quarry.

Kumar's wife, Madhurani Tewatia is an IAS officer posted in Madhya Pradesh. At present, she is on maternity leave in New Delhi.

Reacting to the development, leader of the opposition in the assembly Ajay Singh told TOI that the opposition parties had raised the issue of rampant illegal mining across the state during the winter session of the Vidhan Sabha late last year but the BJP government preferred to remain silent without taking any concrete action. "We have been pointing towards presence of mining mafia which enjoyed political patronage of the ruling party. Morale of illegal mining mafia is so high that they have now killed an IPS officer", he said.

Singh reiterated his party's demand for a probe by the CBI into the illegal mining in Madhya Pradesh.

After the issue of illegal mining activities was raised by the opposition in the assembly, the state government had initially raided few stone quarries in Satna district and in some other districts

Seriously? He tried to do his duty, is that a mistake?

IPS posts are not distributed as candies. At least he stood up and justified his oath while other guardians are pushing their tails inside their rear.
