The primary role of the ship is to undertake hydrographic surveys, required for production of nautical charts and publications aimed at improving navigational safety at sea. Makar is equipped with an array of modern surveying equipment and also undertake limited oceanographic surveys towards providing marine environmental data.

Gujarat govt company Alcock Ashdown Limited today handed over a newly built Makar vessel to the India Navy.

Rs 109.89 crore catamaran hydrauligraphic survey vessel was for the first time operated today from Ghogha port of Saurashtra on maiden voyage to Mumbai.

I think by 2012 everyone knew that shipyard didn't have enough liquidity to continue with the project and by 2013 itself nobody was hoping for ships to be rolled out from that shipyard. why suddenly now it is coming up ?
