Lets not hype Solar too much till we indigenously manufacture solar panels and have intellectual right on the technology. Till then we will still be spending dollars on import. It is good to promote and give subsidy while it is in nascent stage and people get used to it. But after some time subsidy will have to be removed.

In India the total solar panel manufacture capacity is 5200mw operational at 4330mw
not sure about intellectual property right

solar not entirely a bad thing, it is partly responsible for bringing the power prices down.state DISCOMS are earning anywhere between 2-14 Rs margin per unit across india.

Unit Prices for states to buy from central grid right now.

Yes but we have leverage . We might provide market share to other countries. Who are ready to oblige us .
That can be done taking whole SAARC together, excluding the failed state

Are't these indian solar panel manufacturer developed indigenous panel ? Developed by themselves ?

Our nations grid system is't fully developed and it's getting older...due to poor grid system we can't send our electricity to every home..like Rajasthan which is on paper gross surplussed power generator ..but many area east or Araballi in Thar lack proper grid and many villages don't have even line..
So a Hyderabad base company with GOI and GOR works on "Micro grid" project based on solar power...if the project become successful the will expand it ..now these micro-grid can be powered by cascade-waterfall too in hilly area..so hope that renewable energy expand to fill up the hole of our electricity system....
For me with current technology of solar power..we need to lost many cultivable land for a one mega project...so either fund these research in this sector or work on N-Power..I think our future for now lies in N-Power....

India to reach 20 GW of installed solar capacity by FY18-end: report

India installed 7.5 GW in the last four quarters and the total utility scale solar capacity reached 16.2 GW by September, says a report by Bridge to India

New Delhi: India is expected to reach 20 gigawatt (GW) of installed solar capacity by the end of the present financial year (2017-18), said a report released by the consulting firm Bridge to India (BTI) on Tuesday.

According to the latest edition of India Solar Map 2017, which was released on Tuesday, India will reach a total of 20 GW of installed solar capacity by 2017-18 end. It also said that India installed 7.5 GW in the last four quarters (Q4 2016-Q3 2017) and the total utility scale solar capacity reached 16.2GW by September.

Out of the 7.5 GW capacity added in this period, 57% came from three southern states—Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. With this, Telangana now ranks number one for commissioned capacity followed by Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh.

20 GW of solar power by 2022 was the original target under India’s national solar mission set by Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance government. But in 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government revised it to 100 GW by 2022.

“It is a curious time for solar sector in India. We are coming off a period of exceptional growth of over 80% over last three years. But the future looks more subdued—demand for solar power is slowing down when tariffs have fallen to a low of Rs2.42/ kWh level making solar power the cheapest new source of power in India. Utility scale solar capacity addition is expected to slow down to about 5 GW per annum,” said Vinay Rustagi, managing director, BTI, while speaking on the launch of BTI’s India Solar Map 2017.

He said it is expected that “investors to shift their attention to the secondary market, where some large M&A (mergers and acquisitions) transactions are in the pipeline.”

Meanwhile, the report further said that seven project developers in India now have a portfolio greater than one GW (both commissioned and pipeline projects).

The report also stressed that there has been a “marginal increase in the market share of Indian manufacturers” but the “Chinese suppliers continue to hold over 80% of the total market share”

So Gadkari was not kidding when he was talking about those big numbers of lakhs of crores of investment.
Yup. We are going on an infrastructure binge. Many states have already found ways to deal with land acquisition such as land pools , leasing etc. Capital is pouring in from world over. Govt itself will spend almost 10 lakh crore on infrastructure.

NHAI is going to sake stake soon to raise money for Bharat mala. Express way projects are now being sanctioned left and right. Highways construction is over 20km a day !!

Next two decades our growth will mostly be driven by huge infrastructure binge.

Sort of like china from 1990s to 2010.
Only difference we'll use better technology:biggrin2:

The transport infrastructure sector in India is expected to grow at 6.1 per cent in real terms in 2017 and grow at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5.9 per cent through the year 2021, thereby becoming the fastest-expanding component of the country's infrastructure sector.

The construction of highways reached 8,142 km during FY 2016-17, with an all-time high average pace of 22.3 km per day. In the first two months of FY2017-18, 1,627 km of highway was constructed at an average of 26.3 km per day.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), 133-km roads per day in 2016-17 were constructed as against a 2011-14 average of 73-km per day.

Land acquisition already done!!

Why do we need loans from outside countries? Isn't it better to raise fiscal deficit than take loans? Unless, one of the intentions is to raise foreign exchange for India and the loan is merely a soft loan. If the loan has interest rates of 6-7%, it is better to raise fiscal deficit
