The best and the fastest way to get some operational indigenous SSN's would be to buy some extra hulls of scorpene submarines and mate our reactors with them.

They let Brazilians do the same, IMO we have better relations with them.

Even if they don't allow us, Arihant class SSBN project was started as a SSN project.

Can we directly start building our SSNs with pumpjet, cause by the time we start inducting our SSNs it would be around 2025-2027(optimistically).

The SSN if any will likely be SSGN and based on Arihants. Maybe a more powerful 150 MW reactor.

There are no plans for any SSGN with the IN as of now, or for the foreseeable future. The IN simply wants long endurance SSNs for CBG escort role, and truth be told, that's the maximum they can pay for.

    .
But yes, the SSNs will almost certainly be a derivative of the next gen SSBNs, and will carry the 150-160 MW reactor. This is necessary to generate enough speed to keep up with the Carriers. They won't have the 150+ CMs for a debilitating land attack, but IMO you could be looking at 16-32 CMs being available for Land Attack role or Anti ship role, which is fairly good for a SSN.

Thats what I meant. The sub will have a healthy complement of Nirbhay and Brahmos missiles so it will be for all practical purposes a SSGN but yes there is no place for dedicated SSGN's now. A 6000-7000 tonne SSN can easily carry 16 VLS and another 12-16 in torp tubes.

Are you sure that choosing own disign for the SSN is the best idea for India (exept the option with Scorpene's hull)? What about potential delays, due to the designing process? Wouldn't it be better to cope with another state, which already has required experience in designing and building such ships?

The SSBN that's already under sea trials is our own design.

We are cooperating with the Russians here.

But Arihant is already delayed, isn't it? That's the point. It would be better to cooperate with other - more experienced in this field - state on a design of SSN to avoid delays . Beside Russia, there's France with Barracuda-class and the Brits with Astutes.

Nobody knows anything about Arihant's timetable to suggest it was delayed or not. Even if there was a delay, we don't know the reasons for the delay to suggest consultancy would help avert the delay. A very large component of the submarine is indigenous, including the reactor and the propulsion systems, so a problem in these systems won't be something open to any foreign firms to provide adequate consultancy to fix any problems.

And there's no chance the Brits or the French will help us with this.

The Russians are far more experienced in nuclear submarines than the British or the French. They have designed over 20 different classes of submarines. That's twice more than British and French combined. And the navy's relationship with nuclear submarines go back to Admiral Gorshkov's days, the man, not the carrier, who was a very close friend to India.

This is one way to tell the Chinese that Indian Ocean is Indian. You do not come here and in return we would make no forays in China Sea. Nuclear attack submarines and ballistic missile submarines will guarantee that.

What makes you think they would agree to help India design and build a series of its own SSN, which are obviously an offensive weapon aimed and PRC, when they need good relations with China?

Russia does not trust china. They simply provide them with products a notch below what India is offered. China has had some helpwith SSK design from russia but not SSN. The arihant is far superior to any chinese nuke sub thanks in part to consultations with russia. I am surprized no pic of Aarihant has been seen since 5 years of launch. No one has a clue where it is with all the false info that is fed by DRDO, IN and GoI.
