Hi, I know this is an old post, but wanted to share something.

I used to assemble & sell desktops while in college... Weird thing is none of them wanted internet. Somehow majority of Indian parents are conservative & they equate Internet with porn.

Also, broadband is a very recent & still costly phenomenon in India. Unlimited 256kbps ADSL costs 750, 512kbps costs 1350 and a 2mbps connection has a 15GB cap, base price 1111 with 30p per extra MB thereafter.

400 million middle class? That is definitely a good-looking number.

What is the size of Indian netizen populaton? Approximate 100 million if my memory serves.

So 3 out of 4 Indian mid-class can't even afford a cheap desktop and a proper internet connection?

Are you fu*king kidding me?

I live in National Capital and in my locality you wont find majority of houses with Computers, may be 5%(even less) of household has got an Internet Connection (not people, divide by 5 for per-capita), does this mean all are absolute poor according to you ? Chinese standards ?

Sometimes i wonder with so large population of netizen's how could they be still living under an autocracy (of CCP) with almost everything censored, are Han Chinese this incapable ?

I never said that having no internet connection means being absolute poor, please don't stretch my words. But it is kind of weird that being a middle-class in 21th century, you can't even afford proper internet connection.

It is not a bad thing to live under the ruling of CPC, at least we are having decent Internect connection, which seems to be a privilege in democratic India and can't even be enjoyed by middle-calss Indians.

Decent internet connection vs basic rights. Tough choice, but internet wins. lmao.

Internet in India is unaffordable

From 2009

Got a 2 Mbps (150 GB limit than throttled to 512 Kbps) for Rs. 2100 (~40 USD).

Got a broad band connection for Rs.1500/- for a month. 4Mbps speech unlimited with no restriction now available in Chennai. Let us see how long it works good. It is supposedly 4G and is wireless:hurray:

One doesnt have to trade basic rights with Internet connection, all you need is money. As a people who is working with Internet service provider, i can assure you that.

And in 21th century, having access to Internet means having access to freely flowing information, which should also be counted as a basic right.

Tata Docomo 3G

$40/month
That is very expensive, with that kind of money, you can get a 2Mbps unlimited internet connection for a year in China.

In my town, 4Mbps unlimited internet connection for a year costs 320 RMB (51.46$), and the price is still going down.
