    The secular Indian media, especially the electronic media, are trying to outgun each other to flaunt their secular credentials in their portrayal of the 2002 riots in Gujarat. Its been ten years since the riots took place. I will not do a post-mortem of who's right and who's wrong.

    The self-styled guardians of our secularism - NDTV, TIMES Now, CNN IBN, The Hindu, The Hindustan Times - are busy raking up the ghosts of the Gujarat riots. All they rant is how the Muslims were killed, how Muslim women were raped, how Muslim homes were burnt down.... and on they rant in endless debates, with conscience-keepers of our society - Brinda Karat, Javed Akhtar, Manish Tiwari, Abhishek Singhvi, Suhel Seth, Teesta Setalvad, and other 'secular' folks.

    Why don't Barkha Dutt, Prannoy Roy, Rajdeep Sardesai, Sagarika Ghosh, and Arnab Goswami ever raise questions on the

    (a) role played by Congress party leaders in the 1984 Sikh Riots in Delhi, which saw the deaths of more than 3000 Sikhs, in the aftermath of Indira Gandhi's assassination by her Sikh bodyguards;

    (b) plight of the Hindu Pandits of Kashmir who are living like refugees in their own country after being driven out by Muslim terrorists and hardliners;

    (c) ethnic cleansing of Hindus and Christians in Kashmir Valley by Muslim radicals;

    (d) evangelical activities carried out by Christian missionaries in several parts of India, especially in large parts of Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Kerala;

    (e) farmers' suicides in Andhra Pradesh, the so-called 'rice bowl of India', because of the nefarious policies of the Congress government.

    Yes, there are several other uncomfortable questions that are never raised on the Newshour, Big Fight, Question Time India, Face the Nation.

    Selective amnesia on the part of the Indian media is sowing seeds of hatred between different communities. What the media in India is peddling is half-truths and lies. They act more like spokespersons of the Congress and less like protectors of public interest.

    To hell with public interest, as long as I get my kickbacks and paid holidays, seem to be the silent refrain of the secular media houses. So much for 'whatever it takes' to 'experience truth'.

    And if someone voices his opinion on these suckular and leperal media, he is labelled a communal. Wtf. BJP by all means is much more secular than these suckular media and CONs. Anyone with a conscience will accept that!!

    Why is Times Now not following up on the story of Hasan Ali's partner who they claimed to have traced back to Malaysia? The ED and a couple of other teams were said to have rushed to Malaysia but all is quiet on that front now? I guess they are waiting for the mandatory period after which he becomes ineligible to be deported to India.

    You guys are focussing on the english Language media only. I may suggest that please also try to view regional news channles in local languages. They have a different take on current affairs and also on local issues. they have a bigger impact on the local population than the stupid Times Nows, NDTVs and CNN-IBNs.

    You are right. We should focus on local media as well. Please post news from local media if you can.

    Meanwhile, I am referring to a case where TimesNow claimed a few months back to have traced a person to Malaysia that the ED / IT could not find and now appears to have gone slow on. Why are they not chasing that story?

    It takes money for a channel to do such kind of investigative work. And if unfortunately the TRPs do not justify it then the channels just drop it like a hot potato.

    The primary job of the news channels today is to boost their ratings by making their stories entertaining and light i.e. the LCM of their perceived audience and they have an unbelievably low opinion of their audience :).

    I go back to TimesNow (forgive me for focusing on English media :namaste:) again. Yesterday in NewsHour, there was a program on government hospitals where OT assistants performed surgical procedures - injections and stitches. The CMO of that hospital was explaining that there was only one doctor in the hospital at the time and they got 18 patients (probably the result of an accident) at once and the doctor had to use all means to attend to the patients - reasonable. The real story was why there was only one doctor in the hospital at the time - the CMO have a vague reason about change of shift. But this point was never debated. Instead, the CMO (who happened to be the only doctor in the hospital at the time from the video clip) was being hounded as to why an OT assistant was performing procedures. Welcome to the world of government hospitals where most of the doctors play truant to attend to their own private practice. And Arnab Goswami was going on and on about how the CM was holidaying in London while this was happening in his state. It is this tendency of playing to the LCM that is irritating.

    I stand corrected, I had completely forgotten about Mr.Ketkar, who appears everyday on prime time and makes a complete ass of himself with his sycophancy to the Congress party.

    However if you see NDTV 24x7 and NDTV Hindi covering the same topic, there will be a different slant in 6/10 cases. Same is the case with ABP News. I have seen some of the ETV regional news, not regularly but whnever I am travelling, their coverage is definitely much better and more in depth.

    Very true.

    To give a perspective, BBC and CNN are also accused as left wing news channels in the west. Are they?
