:frusty: Pakis had 100km mlrs which is gifted by chinkis. And you want to keep the akash near border?
One big salvo will seal the fate of the division or regiment placed near border.
SAM is meant for taking out surprise attacks. So, if the first attack of Pakistan is to attack tye SAM battery, then that itself is a win. Immediately after the SAM is hit, India will be alerted and launch hundreds of missiles, both ballistic and cruise missiles to attack Pakistan completely.

Obviously, SAMs can be taken down but that will stop the first strike. In a full war, it is expected that there will be losses of equipment

Akash deployed only at air bases ( just 8 air bases covered). More than 25 bases yet to be covered ( pechora replacement/non existent SAM ).
Current negotiation of 8 squadrons going on. So that's a long way to go for all airbases.

Army deploys them for protection of either mobile formations or perhaps cantonments. E.g. 27 air defence regiment ( Amritsar airfield ) was on republic day parade this time. I guess Army has got two regiments.

The EL/M - 2084 is well capable of detecting missile and rocket launches. So we have enough early warning across Pakistani border. And we don't deploy Akash on border fences . Rather well inside our territory. How many MRLS does Pakistan have ? And where do you propose that they will attack

Akash will be deployed across the border. It is not that India only bothers about airbase while having complete disregard for other places like manufacturing units in cities, food storage etc. Why be short sighted and speak of squadrons, regiments instead of making a wholesale coverage across the border? The radars for Akash Missile has ranges over 300km and a single radar can control about 300km of border. So, deploying Akash missile across the entire border will not be hard

Bhai the first salvo of attack from Pakistan will be a declaration of war with India. Best defence will be the offensive. Our ATAGS, MBRL, missiles and all the offensive we have got will be used to target, Pakistani infrastructure, Naval ships, submarines, air bases, known missiles sites, ammunition dumps etc. Our Akash and other air defence will be used as a second line of defence in case Pakistan still has courage left to launch a missiles or air attacks. Our Radars will assist our missiles to destroy the origin of such missiles or aircrafts in Pakistan. I am confident on the capability of our military planners.

Indian Army Set For VSHORAD Tender Negotiations

The Request for Information (RFI) was issued in 2010. Three companies made it to the trials — MBDA of France, Rosoboronexport of Russia and SAAB of Sweden.

“Three companies are in the contest, and all have been declared compliant after the re-trials held last year,” the official added.

IA's Akash SAM sqds will be used for defending Strike Corps and these can very well be used in enemy territory.

If all 3 systems Igla-S, Mistral & RBS-70 passed trials, we can expect Russia to take this home. Not only is it cheaper but we already use the older version. Re training is easier. Not to forget Igla-S/Verba are more man portable with 1 gunner needed while the others need teams of 2-3. Make's it easier to fire and scoot. However, not sure if we are being offered the newest Verba system or the older Igla-S.

Is there a reason that India can make NAG missile and derive MPATGM from it but is not capable of building a MANPADS? It is easier to detect a flying object as there is very little noise like trees, bushes, trench, mountain etc in the air, unlike detection of ground target. So, it must be easier to build MANPADS than MPATGM.

I don't think anyone will give us the state of the art technology, especially the algorithm of the missile flight

Can't CLGM be used as a MANPAD.

RBS 70 NG is very good platform..not the missile. We can make our own missiles for this platform.
What we need the missile range upto 15+ km..more range means more weight.

These MANPADS as the word ''man" suggest, is manportable. CLGM is indeed a good VSHORAD missile. Even in MPATGM like Javelin, there is anti-air ability

The only problem with CLGM is it is too heavy to be carried by people and with MPATGM like Javelin is that the range is too less as the missile has a larger warhead and lower fuel burn time due to higher width.

MANPADS are made separate from MPATGM as the helicopter and drones are not heavily armed and don't need a big charge like ATGM. Small charge will be sufficient. Also, width of MANPADS is lower and the missile longer to give longer fuel burn time to achieve longer range for its weight

QRSAMs will defend the strike corps, not Akash.

Not true, Army version of Akash is meant to be highly mobile and thus meant to defends the strikes corps.
Nonsense!
Mobility doesn't mean the system is active while on the move!!
Firstly, Rajendra radar system is not deployed (turned off) while on move - and hence cannot even detect threats on the move. Secondly Akash missiles are not 'quick reaction'!
QRSAM system has been designed to have the radar active while on the move; and the missiles can be fired on 'short halts'!

Akash will be kept about 30km from the border, not reachable by enemy artillery. 30km distance is because Akash has the no escape zone of 30km. Since the intention is to defend against instrusion, Akash at 30km from border will be able to kill any plane that enters the Indian border. We can't keep S400 type guns in large numbers everywhere as the missiles are very expensive.

Secondly, you must understand the sequences in a warfare. In modern war, the first wave will be missile launch. So, the first and foremost that that you can expect either countries to do is to launch salvos of missile. Hence, the idea of heavy artillery bombardment of crucial assets like SAMs won't be the first thing to be done. Doing small attacks like that will alert the opponent and make him attack with bigger force. That is also one of the reason why CRAM is not meaningful
If we are able to increase the range of Akash Mk2 to 50 km thn it can be said a reasonable range and LRSAM with 90 km to 100 km range shall simply be awesome. Our Airdefense will become so strong that our enemies shall not be able to think of air strike. They can simply fire Missiles but plane shall totally be useless.

I do have a strong belief that Akash has range of 70km as its weight of 750kg justifies a similar range. The fact that it is a ramjet rather than rocket motor also helps in increasing the range. Even Patriot-1 missile with rocket motor has 70km range for same weight as Akash missile.
