Indian warship pays a visit to Portsmouth for navy talks - Defence - Portsmouth News
~
A NEWLY-BUILT warship is paying a visit to Portsmouth on the way to her new home.
The Indian Naval Ship Tarkash arrived in Portsmouth Harbour yesterday after being handedover to the Indian Navy earlier this month.
It was built in Russia and is stopping in the city for a joint planning conference between Indian and Royal Navy commanders, called Konkan 12.
Commodore Jeremy Blunden, the Deputy Commander UK Maritime Forces, said: 'I am delighted to welcome the Indian Navy this week.
'The Konkan series of exercises and conferences are an important part of the Royal Navy's relationship withthe Indian Navy and the strong defence partnership that exists between our nations.
'This week's talks and workshops have done much to improve our shared understanding of how we will conduct future amphibious operations in support of humanitarian aid and disaster relief as well as high end war-fighting where it is required.'
People will be able to see what life is like in the Indian Navy when the ship opens to the public tomorrow from 11amuntil 4pm at the naval base.
