The article only states that all that the agent did, was to help in forming a grand coalition that includes the extreme left and the extreme right with the political weight of Kumaratunga behind it. It also goes on to state that the agent persuaded Sirisena to walk out and contest with the opposition and also helped in gathering support for him..
Absolutely, clandesting wings operating in friendly or enemy soil does their bit of lobbying to formulate a politics that suits their interest. If Rajapakse cant thwart it its that he failed in a political challenge. There is no blaming RAW for it.
Media is cooking up a conspiracy for him.
Anyway, India was against his appeasing China and going against fixed and friendly norms. So such lobbying will happen..its national interest and clandestine divisions are bound to do that.

He is making his position more worse for himself with all the media drama.

Agreed that Indian agencies were trying to form a credible and strong opposition to Rajapaksa but so were the others - including Americans, British and as Rajapaksa alleged, even Norwegians. So how come suddenly Indian agencies became so strong that they single handedly ousted a dictator? Its nothing but outright exaggeration of Indian role for political gains in incoming parliamentary elections.
BTW how is the royal astrologer of Mahinda Rajapaksa? Has he done any new astrological prediction yet?
Dude I agree to your points . All we can do is speculate. These things are all shadow and mirrors. But what makes ME believe more in the RAW role is that these statements have all been confirmed by Wikramasinge and also people more close to Sirisena. Also remember No other country had as much stake in these elections as India Does be it US or UK

Would have been believable if only there had actually been an opposition strong enough to win two months back. It all started with Sirisena walking out and joining opposition party " THREE DAYS" before the Nomination papers where filled for contesting :)
How about the the guy Sirisena walked out of the party on the instructions of Rajapakse because people wanted the change of the regime and now Rajapakse is blaming India to cover up the corruption and Chinese role in the Island country.

:) Thats beyond absurd friend. cant be for the simple reason that he need not have gone to such a length to achieve so little. All needed to do was to win the election again which he would have again without any alternative. And remember if you go through the break up of results he still polled 40 % and had won in MOST of the sinhalese majority districts. And what is now the opposition Buddhist majority party like our BJP would have also sided with him as well.

When he clearly knows that the winds are blowing in opposite direction, he will plan his safe exit strategy so that his successor will not haunt him for the corruption.

India dismisses reports of expulsion of RAW official in Colombo

NEW DELHI: India today dismissed reports that the Colombo station chief of RAW had been expelled in the run up to this month's Sri Lankan Presidential election and maintained that he has moved out after completion of his three-year tenure.

Reports from Colombo said that the Sri Lankan Government had asked India to recall the official in December for allegedly helping gather support for joint opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena who won thepolls.

"The normal tenure of an Indian diplomat in Sri lanka is three years and all officials who have been transferred during last year have completed that. Its a normal transfer.

"Do not read anything into it unless somebody stands up and says 'yes'. Using unnamed sources is just hiding behind and obscuring the truth," External Affairs Ministry Spokesman Syed Akbaruddin said here.

Rubbishing the reports, he further said, "If somebody has proof otherwise, I would stand ready to contest that. Otherwise take my view as the last word on that."

Asked specifically whether he has denied the report, the Spokesperson replied in affirmative. Sources said the RAW official had completed his three-year tenure in Sri Lanka in September last year.

Sirisena had trounced Mahinda Rajapaksa in the tightest-ever presidential contest on January 8, ending his 10-year-rule.

Soon after taking charge as President, Sirisena said relations with India will be high on his priority list and his first trip abroad will be to New Delhi.

The reports from Sri Lanka about expulsion of the RAW official came at a time when new Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera is in India.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today held wide- ranging talks with Samaraweera during which entire gamut of bilateral relationship was reviewed.

I wish Indian intelligence agencies had so much power.
But then if one comes to know of the power of a covert agency its "power" automatically diminishes . A paradox in the intelligence world.
On a side note it is not only India vs China .. Another country close to Sri Lanka that was eager to see Chinas influence decrease was Japan .. Perhaps the current government understands that even though China has the largest investments in the country it is best not to antagonize the 2nd and 3rd largest investors / or your largest trading partner .
