We Indians need to get rid of this 'Chalta hai' attitude or we're sunk. These damn babus and employees in general get paid hefty salaries for sitting on their asses doing zilch. There's no accountability. Privatize the Railways. Or we'll keep slipping deeper into the hole. Bullet trains, my ass! Even a train at a speed of 40kmh gets derailed as happened yesterday!
Modi gave a ministry to his best performing guy Piyush Goyal, he aint fun to work with but he is needed for now, One of my uncle works in ICF chennai he said all the junk was there from last 60 years was dug and sold and all the equipment now is new, but no new hiring. that is when Suresh Prabhu was their and now Piyush Goyal took incharge he is really smart and ruthless guy. He gets the job done.

He talks about hypocrisy

Yup but we have to wait till Alstom Prima comes in for 12000 hp loco

In this case twin WAP 5 was used for higher acceleration and speed , Rajdhani special to Bandra is 2 hours faster than the previous king Mumbai Rajdhani which takes 15 + hours in same route with single WAP 5 or WAP 7 loco

Main issue is not engine power but track. Look, even rajdhani has no provision to go beyond 130 KMPH. Itis because of some old bridges, sharp curves (Angle above 5 degree) , passing through populated area etc. Othe main issue is wheel of coaches are not independent (mounted on single shaft) so they creates a problem while making turn and derailing chances increases. This is the reason that we are able to run Telgo at 180 KM on same track on which we are unable to go beyond 130 or 140 kmph.

First electric locomotive from Madhepura factory in Bihar to roll out on February 28

The locomotive factory spread over 250 acres of land at Madhepura, 284 km northeast of state capital Patna, is an Indian Railways joint venture with French giant Alstom.

The first high-power electric locomotive assembled at the Madhepura factory in Bihar is likely to roll out on February 28, 2018. If sources are to be believed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag-off the roll out in the presence of railway minister in New Delhi.

The 12,000HP (horsepower) locomotive will haul the speed of trains up to 150kmph.

“The first electric locomotive, assembled at Madhepura, will be dedicated to the nation on February 28 .Thereafter, four more high-power electric locomotives would roll out from the factory in the fiscal 2018-19,” chief spokesperson of East Central Railway (ECR) Rajesh Kumar told HT.

The locomotive factory spread over 250 acres of land at Madhepura, 284 km northeast of state capital Patna, is an Indian Railways joint venture with French giant Alstom and the first major foreign direct investment (FDI) project in the rail sector.

A team of more than 35 engineers are working day night to assemble the electric engines at factory, set up at an estimated cost of over Rs 20,000 crore. The Indian Railways is looking to manufacture 800 electric train engines in the next 11 years to meet the requirement of locomotives after the electrification of almost all railway routes.

Five locomotives would be assembled at the factory by 2019 and the remaining 795 would be manufactured under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, Kumar said. The factory would build 100 electric engines per year from the fiscal 2019-20, he added.

The foundation stone for the factory was laid in 2007 by then railway minister Lalu Prasad. The pace of the work at the factory got momentum when the railways awarded the electric locomotive project to Alstom in November 2015.

PM inaugurates new metro link between Noida and Delhi

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today inaugurated a new metro link between Noida and Delhi. He unveiled a plaque at Botanical Garden Metro Station, to mark the inauguration of a portion of the Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro, connecting Botanical Garden in Noida with Kalkaji Mandir in South Delhi. He also travelled briefly on the metro train, before arriving at the venue for the public meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister conveyed greetings on the occasion of Christmas. He also noted that the day marks the birthdays of two Bharat Ratnas – Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, and Former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He said that it is due to the people of Uttar Pradesh that the nation has got a strong and stable Government. He added that he would always remain grateful to the people of Uttar Pradesh for their affection.

We live in an era in which connectivity is all-important, he said, adding that just inaugurated metro line would serve not just the present, but also future generations. He said that by 2022, when we mark 75 years of freedom, he dreams that we live in an India in which our petrol imports reduce. In order to achieve this, he added, state-of-the-art mass transit systems are the need of the hour. Noting that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji took a ride on the Delhi Metro in December 2002, Shri Narendra Modi said that since then, the metro network in the National Capital Region has expanded considerably.

The Prime Minister asserted that governance cannot happen when the dominant thought process begins at 'Mera Kya' and ends at 'Mujhe Kya.' He said that these mindsets are now being changed. He added that for the Union Government, decisions are about national interest and not political gains.

The Prime Minister said that earlier Governments took pride in making new laws. He said the current Government wishes to be the Government that removes obsolete laws. Good governance cannot happen when outdated laws hamper decision-making, he added.

The Prime Minister congratulated the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, and said his focus on good governance is taking the State to new heights. He credited him with ending the superstition associated with Noida, by coming to this city. If anybody thinks that not going to a place will prolong their CM tenure and visiting a place will curtail it, such a person does not deserve to be a Chief Minister, the Prime Minister asserted.

The Prime Minister also touched upon the work being done on railway infrastructure, expanding road network, and strides in the renewable energy sector. He described Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji as 'Bharat Marg Vidhata,' and said he has shown us the way towards development.

Earlier, in his speech, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and said the Prime Minister has given a new meaning to politics of this nation. He added that the Prime Minister always says that we have to move ahead on the path of development.

The AC local will operate on the Churchgate-Borivili section.

In a Christmas gift to Mumbaikars, the country’s first air-conditioned (AC) suburban train commenced its services today, thus realising the long-awaited dream of lakhs of commuters.

The train, operated by the Western Railway (WR), began its journey at 10.32 am from the Borivili station to Churchgate in South Mumbai.

The commuters, excited at the launch of the AC local, which is expected to bring them respite during the scorching summer, captured the historic moments by clicking selfies as the train reached the Churchgate station at 11.16 am.

Earlier, BJP MPs Kirit Somaiya, Gopal Shetty, Maharashtra Minister Vinod Tawde, Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar and WR General Manager Anil Kumar Gupta flagged off the train.

Mr. Gupta said, “This AC local is being run through a prototype coach and we will invite feedback from commuters and incorporate it in our next fleet of coaches.”

Built in Chennai at a cost of ₹54 crore, the 12-car rake of the AC local arrived here on April 4, 2016.

Initially, it was meant to be run on the Central Railway (CR) corridor. However, later it was decided to run it first on the WR corridor.

Subsequently, the WR conducted about 65 trial runs of the train before starting its services for the public on Monday.

According to WR Chief Public Relations Officer Ravinder Bhakar, the last successful technical run of the train, running on broad gauge, was conducted on Sunday.

Initially, the AC local will operate only on the Churchgate-Borivili section. The train will make six trips daily (12 services per day) and from January 1 next year, it will run from Churchgate to Virar, Bhakar said.

“The train will not operate on Saturdays and Sundays as it requires maintenance,” Mr. Bhakar said, adding that the 12 services of the AC train will replace the existing 12 non-AC services.

Mumbaikars, who took the first ride, expressed delight at the new service.

“It’s quite unbelievable. I can’t express my feeling. I pray to the Almighty that every local is made like this,” Sheela Raut, a commuter, said.

Railway activists too expressed happiness at the launch of the AC train.

Kailash Verma, an activist of the Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sangh, said, “The commissioning of this train is a testimony that the Indian Railways is trying hard to meet the demands of the passengers. I hope that maintenance and punctuality of the trains will be monitored on priority.”

The base fare of the single journey will be 1.3 times that of the existing first class fare. However, as an introductory offer, the fare for the first six months will be 1.2 times the fare of the existing first class tickets.
