All minesweepers have been decommissioned. Waiting for Mumbai and Vishakhapatnam to be blockaded by mines.
Troll elsewhere. Mine countermeasures nowadays are used on any dedicated ASW platforms. Kamorta and Abhay class have depth charge racks which can be used by anti towed sonar array to detect and neutralize mines.

These old ships are past their expiry date and are literally toothless in modern littoral warfare.

Like @undeadmyrmidon mentioned, all ASW platforms have the ability to deal with mines.

What we need are Mine Warfare ships, capable of both laying mines and removing them.
You need a dedicated platform but at affordable price. Something like the Visby class.

For greater endurance, you require a much larger platform or at least an ultramodern one like the LCS of the USN.
This can be easily built as we can now make composite low signature naval designs like the Kamorta class.

Completely agreed, but I would argue for a completely composite construction of a catamaran type vessel, with the ability to perform mine warfare and general duties such EEZ patrolling and Littoral Patrol.

The problem is, of course, the lack of shipbuilding capacity in our shipyards.

From 2004 when the requirement first arose, it has been 15 years and we still can't finalize things. Seen across all services. Probably the first ship won't even come before 2022.
Sure ASW ships can be tasked for mine hunting , but specialist ships will always be needed. With more than 12 Major ports in India, we are surely streched to protect our oceans
The new MCMVs were supposed to carry
1 Autonomous underwater vehicles , 2 reusable and 6 disposable Remotely operated vehicles. Don't think above platforms have these.
Last I read Khukri was sunk bcoz it was going slowly and not in a fast zigzag way for ASW ops. And IIRC mine hunting is a slow moving job. (might be wrong )
Anyways Kamortas are needed for CBG group protection and made of steel(with composite superstructure) vs fibreglass/ wood for MCMVs.

Khukri's sinking and mines have no correlation. She was hunting the Hangor, her going slow was a deliberate decision of her CO, Capt Malla so that her SONAR had a better chance of picking up the sub's signature

Fantastic list...
This list alone costs no less that 100-150 billion $ over a period 12 years.

Good thing is RFI’s for most of the items have been issued over the past three years.
I wonder, how much of that list will be made in India. The more the merrier, thus we save valuable foreign exchange.

From now on make in India is drafted into procurement policy, which was not the case earlier.

future govts cannot skip make in India or offsets without changing the policy. There will be resistance to policy changes from public.

The Dubai royal "kidnapped" off the coast of Goa has been taken back to the UAE with the help of India, according to French-American national Herve Jaubert who was also accompanying her. Mr Jaubert says he was also taken back to the United Arab Emirates earlier this month and detained for days before his release.

In this video statement put out after his release, Mr Jaubert describes in vivid detail how the Indian Coast Guard took over his yacht Nostromo on March 4. UAE had deported Dawood aide Farooq Taqla four days later, on March 8.

"We were attacked by Indian forces who boarded us from Indian Coast guard boats. They were about 12 armed men," Herve Jaubert claims in the new video statement.

Once they had taken control of the vessel, UAE officers followed in. The vessel was refueled and their journey began back to the Emirates.

Curiously, Mr Jaubert claimed the coast guard vessels - he called them warships - were armed with cannons and missiles. "They hunted us, they found us, and they attacked us with no warning, no notice, no radio call...Just plain military attack," he said.

Given the sensitivity of this interception, it could likely have been MARCOS. Considering our economic and strategic interests in UAE, its good to see Indian government handle this in a swift and quiet manner.

3rd Fuel Barge, 1800 DW Tonnes, successfully completes Sea Trials, will be delivered in mid-April 18, over 6 months ahead of contractual schedule. GSL has already delivered 1st & 2nd Fuel Barge ahead of contractual schedule.

GRSE contract for Navy's 4 survey vessels to be signed by middle of 2018

Kolkata: The contract for the four large survey vessels to be built by defence PSU Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) for the Indian Navy is expected to be signed by the middle of the current year with the first vessel of the series slated to be delivered within 2021.

This was informed by GRSE chairman and managing director Rear Admiral (retired) Vipin Kumar Saxena on Saturday. Emerging as the lowest bidder, the GRSE won the contract of Rs 2,500-crore project in 2017.

"We have completed the CNC process with the Ministry of Defence. We hope that the contract would be signed in next few months, the middle of this year. The first ship has to be delivered in 36 months' time from the date of signing the contract. It will be followed by each ship in every six months," Saxena said.

He was speaking after the launch of fast patrol vessel: Annie Besant for the Indian Coast Guard at the GRSE's Rajabagan Dock Yard in presence of General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (Eastern Command) Lieutenant General Abhay Krishna and his wife Bibha Krishna at a ceremony.

Speaking about the Rs 5500-crore contract for building eight Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) shallow water crafts for the Indian Navy, Saxena elaborated, "The contract for the project will be signed in a three-four months' time after the signing of the contract for four large survey vessels. As far as the built-period is concerned for this project, the first ASW shallow water craft will be delivered after 42 months' time and one in every six months thereafter."

Once both the contracts are signed, they will add Rs 8,000 crores to the GRSE's present order book of Rs 21,000 crores, Saxena underlined.

On the GRSE's production growth he added, "We now expect to double the value of our production which was over Rs 900 crores in the last year (2017)."
