Yasin Bhatkal-The real story
Yasin a tenth standard drop out was doing nothing before he taken to Dubai by his father in the year 2005.

At Hyderabad, they met with another operative by the name Sainudeen Sattar a radio mechanic who is also an accused in the Bangalore serial blasts. Here it was decided that Sainudeen would handle Bangalore while Riyaz and Iqbal would be in charge of operations in Ahmedabad and Yasin would head towards Bihar and Maharashtra. However the first attack that was carried out by Yasin Bhatkal was the Lumbini Park blast at Hyderabad. Here he showed his skills as a bomb maker and planted various types of bombs known as the flower pot bomb and also a boat bomb.

According to investigators in Bangalore, Yasin may have been a school drop out, but his dedication to the cause was immense. Contrary to the talk that the Bhatkal trio were ideologically motivated, the fact is that each one was attracted to the money. The money that came in from Pakistan was good and each one of them had a minimum of Rs 10 to 15 lakh at any given time.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yasin's last plea
Yasin Bhatkal who is a master of disguises and aliases tried his luck for the last time when the Intelligence Bureau went to pick him up at Nepal. Sources tell that when he was cornered he told them that he was Dr Imran a specialist in Unani medicine. He pleaded his case for nearly 15 minutes and said he was a resident of Bijhar. " I am a doctor specialising in Unani for the past five years."

However the IB had nabbed their man after months of planning. Dr Imran was in fact an alias that Yasin used for operations in Bihar. He was not known by any other name in Bihar barring Dr Imran. He also went by the aliases Sharukh while his real name was Ahmed Siddibapa.

Why Pakistan may have jettisoned Yasin Bhatkal

It is not unlikely that an American nudge and pressure to do this has been a significant factor in all these happenings. But it must be acknowledged that when it comes to their national interests, Pakistanis are known to play hard-ball, unlike Indians. With Indian economy in a tailspin of its own making, the Indians also will be willing to toe the American line on Pakistan. It seems that the Indian government is laying the groundwork for the September meeting between Sharif and Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly. This may well be followed by the visit by the Indian PM to Pakistan early in 2014. This will fit in well with his desires and the ruling party's plans to milk this for its electoral success in May 2014.

lets wait and watch.I donot think any big break would come either in spet meeting or even MMS visit to pak post sept meeting. At most pak could announce MSF status to india but i highly doubt that.

Second even visit of MMS visit to pak would hardly convert into votes.

Haven't yet seen NDTV report on Kamal Farooqui's rant on IM terrorist otherwise all his anti Modi comments find quick birth in their headings slot.

I am so glad when next time NDTV will pitch them as concerned and rational faces of Indian Muslims against N. Modi, people will know what their reality is before taking them serious as 'becharey'.

Probe if Yasin Bhatkal's arrest is based on crime or religion:SP

Probe if Yasin Bhatkal's arrest is based on crime or religion, SP leader Kamaal Farooqi says

NEW DELHI: The Samajwadi Party has raised questions over the arrest of Indian Mujahideen founder Yasin Bhatkal.

Police should ascertain whether Yasin Bhatkal's arrest is based on crime or religion, SP leader Kamaal Farooqi said in an interview on Friday.

There have been instances in the past when cops have branded individuals as top terrorists, but have failed to prove charges against them, Farooqi said.

"There have been cases when arrests are made solely on basis of religion. I appeal that all facts should be probed before taking action against him," he said.

It is wrong to brand any community without first probing the details, he said seeking a detailed and impartial probe into the activities of Yasin Bhatkal.

Farooqi's comments drew immediate reactions from other political parties, with both Congress and the BJP reacting strongly to it.

Yasin Bhatkal was arrested on Wednesday night from Nepal.

He has been handed over to NIA.

A very valid question from Kamaal Farooqi of Samajwadi Party. We have seen many religiously motivated arrests and frame up's in past so it's not a bad thing to just be sure. An innocent should not be incriminated just because he is a follower of a certain religion to gratify the majority.

Kamal Amrohi is in the habit of turning everything into a communal issue.

One should just have to watch him in any TV debate.

The question that comes up is that it was well known Bhatkal was one of the founders of IM. Now, why was this not contested earlier, if it was false? Why now, when he has been caught?

And anyway, the elections are coming close.

Actually, he should also raise the issue as to was Kasab hanged because of his religion or for the crime he committed.

And interesting is that though the Bihar Police has apprehended him, they have fought shy to investigate - a procedure that is the natural corollary after an arrest.

Politics are at play?

Why should national security be compromised for political votebank?

Its not what happens in official meetings that matter for "secular"votes. But what happens unofficially. Whether we like it or not, whether we accept it or not pakis have a certain degree of control over the mullah network in india. Eg: north easterners were made to flee from various cities recently, who instigated them???

The inside story of how an Eid gift, phone calls and letters helped intelligence agencies track down Indian Mujahideen chief Yasin Bhatkal

Catching Mohammed Ahmed Zarar Siddibappa, better known as Yasin Bhatkal, was no walk in the park.

One of India's most wanted terrorists, Bhatkal kept a hop, skip and jump ahead of India's intelligence agencies for five years.

Intelligence sources have revealed that Bhatkal used several phones, frequently changing numbers as well as devices, to ensure he could not be tracked.

It wasn't just cellphones he relied on, often resorting to using booths for local calls and writing letters to relatives and associates in India and abroad.

"We managed to track him down through the phone calls and his correspondence through letters. We also used a strong network of human intelligence to trace him to his hideout in the interiors of Nepal near Pokhra," said a home ministry official.

Sources said Bhatkal's call details reveal that he was constantly in touch with Indian Mujahideen (IM) leaders in Pakistan as well as some people in Dubai.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has meanwhile, got Bhatkal to Delhi from Patna. The agency has been given Bhatkal's custody for 12 days so as to interrogate him and his close aide Asadullah Akhtar alias Haddi.

Both were arrested at Raxaul in Bihar near the Indo-Nepal border early on Thursday morning. NIA sources said Bhatkal has not revealed much so far.

"He seems to be a hard nut to crack and is not speaking much. He has given information about IM's top leadership in Pakistan but is silent about the group's strategy and plans," said an official.

Bhatkal will be grilled about his possible role in the Dilsukhnagar attack in Hyderbad in February and the recent bomb explosions in the Mahabodhi temple complex at Gaya, Bihar.

Sources said while he mentioned atrocities of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar he denied any involvement in the Bodh Gaya explosions.

Indian intelligence agencies also had information about Bhatkal planning a visit to Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh.

Sources said the reason for his visit is not known.

"We will interrogate him about his plans to visit Dharamshala," said a source. Sources said Bhatkal has confirmed that top IM operatives Riyaz Bhatkal and Iqbal Bhatkal are in Pakistan, Riyaz in Karachi while Iqbal shuttles between Karachi and Dubai.

The third top IM commander Amir Reza Khan, according to Bhatkal, is running terror camps in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Information about IM's Pakistan network would be useful but Indian agencies are more interested in information about the Bhatkal's network across the country.

"He is said to be the head of IM operations within India. We believe he will have explosive information that can dismantle the entire group," said an intelligence official.

THE EIDI CLUE

The Rs 1 lakh eidi (Eid gift) Yasin Bhatkal sent to his Delhi-based wife before Eid, celebrated earlier this month, perhaps proved to be his undoing and gave away his Nepal hideout.

This transfer of money, which was done through normal banking channels, alerted sleuths of the IB, who suspected Bhatkal may have been planning to enter India to carry out a terror attack or flee from his hideout at Pokhra.

Subramanian Swamy in an interview with Barkha Dutt said that FBI has no role to play in this capture, but Saudi Arabia. He suspects that Bhatkal was caught in KSA, moved to Nepal, and a dog-and-pony show about him being captured there was put up.
Tunda was also done the same way I suspect. This is being done after the problems Pakistan created after Jundal was handed over from KSA

Why did Bihar Police spurn Intelligence Bureau's offer to take Yasin Bhatkal on remand?

PATNA: The Bihar Police on Wednesday spurned the Intelligence Bureau's (IB) repeated suggestions to take Yasin Bhatkal on remand after one of India's "most wanted" terrorists had been apprehended in Nepal.

According to sources, IB had requested the Bihar Police to take Yasin on remand on Wednesday night. Senior officials of the IB involved in one of the most successful counter-terror operations emphasized Yasin's role in raising the 'Darbhanga module'- one of the several sleeper cells of Lashkar-e-Taiba's (LeT) Indian proxy Indian Mujahideen (IM) — whose members have been accused of being involved in terror strikes in different parts of the country, including Mumbai.

Sources in central agencies told TOI that IB officials pointed out that at least 15 members of IM had been arrested from the Darbhanga region and this gave Bihar enough basis for arresting Yasin under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

The pitch, however, failed to persuade the Bihar Police brass, leading IB director S A Ibrahim to personally reason with the Bihar Police authorities. This was also to no avail, with Bihar officials expressing their inability to explain their reluctance.

Finally, the IB decided to rope in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) which took Yasin on remand on Thursday.

The hesitance of Bihar Police contrasted starkly with the manner in which agreed to take the custody of the leader of CPI (Maoist), Jagdish Master, after he had been tracked down along with his three members of the central committee of the Maoist outfit by the IB.

"No police force would fight shy of joining such a spectacular success against terrorism," said a senior source in one of the central agencies as he expressed puzzlement over what might have led the Bihar Poice to behave in such a manner.
