Indian Mujahideen chief Yasin Bhatkal, accused of masterminding series of deadly bomb blasts in the country over the years, has been arrested from Gorakhpur on India-Nepal border.

The 30-year-old engineering graduate-turned-terrorist from Karnataka, playing hide and seek with security agencies for years, was apprehended from an undisclosed place in Nepal by a team of anti-terror National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Efforts are being made to extradite him to India.

Bhatkal's terror outfit has triggered explosions in Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad, killing scores of people.

Bhatkal's arrest comes a week after Delhi Police nabbed Laskar-e-Taiba bomb-maker Abdul Karim Tunda.

Bhatkal, whose real name is Syed Ahmed Zarar Siddibappa, first arrested in 2008 but he jumped bail. In 2011 too, he came close to being arrested in Chennai but escaped again.

"It is a very, very significant catch," former Intelligence Bureau chief Arun Bhagat told Headlines Today.

"Tunda and Bhatkal can be confronted and they give important information on their tie-ups with other terror groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and the Pakistani establishment,"

Another terrorist named Waqas has also been arrested. He is one of the alleged bombers in the 2011 Mumbai serial blasts.

I seen K.C Singh former diplomat tweeting that Yasin Bhatkal arrested like Tunda. Clearly a GCC state is deporting them via Nepal to evade Pak pressure or militant backlash. Welcome step!

FBI doesn't sell its tabs on people for cheap. I wonder what IB paid for them.

Yasin Bhaktal's arrest will boost confidence that such people would be caught: Salman Khurshid

Following the arrest of Indian Mujahideen (IM) co-founder Yasin Bhatkal from the Indo-Nepal border last night, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Thursday said that there is confidence in India that such people, who have continuously harmed the country, would be held from anywhere and brought to justice.

"I believe those people had a lot of place where they could hide. But that has ended now. Now the mentality of people, across the globe, has changed. We have been doing routine advocacy on this and we have put this matter before the world a lot of times. There is confidence that such people, who have continuously hurt the country, will be caught. Be it in India or even outside they will be brought to justice," he told media here today.

Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has confirmed Yasin Bhatkal's arrest, and said that he is in the custody of the Bihar Police.

"Last night Yasin Bhatkal was arrested by some sources of our Intelligence agency and right now he is under the custody of Bihar police and the interrogation is going on. Right now, I can only confirm this that he has been arrested," he told media here today.

Yasin Bhatkal, who has been arrested from the Indo-Nepal border, was wanted for his role in a number of terror attacks in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Surat.

Bhatkal, who hails from Bhatkal in Karnataka, was wanted in the German Bakery bomb blast of February 13, 2010, in Pune that left 17 people dead.

Bhatkal's arrest is the second major breakthrough for Indian agencies after the arrest of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) bomb expert Abdul Karim Tunda on August 16.

This is important.

I believe those people had a lot of place where they could hide. But that has ended now. Now the mentality of people, across the globe, has changed.
If this is correct then India is able to pin point the location of these people and coerce those countries ( through USA and other countries) where they are hiding into dumping them.

Major achievement if true.
