Indian Govt. set to appoint first Muslim as Intelligence Bureau chief

New Delhi, Nov.25 (ANI): Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer S Asif Ibrahim is likely to be appointed as the new Intelligence Bureau chief.

Formal orders of Ibrahim's appointment are expected to be issued on Monday. His name has been cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He will be the first Muslim to head the organisation.

Asif, a 1977 batch IPS officer, has wide experience covering various departments of the organisation which mainly deal with intelligence pertaining to internal security.

He will succeed Nehchal Sandhu who retires on December 31.

There were three officers senior to Asif in the IB who have been given different assignments - R N Gupta, Rajgopal, Yashovardhan Azad - all 1976 batch IPS officers while Jairaman is from the 1977 batch.

They have been accommodated as OSD to Cabinet Secretary, chief of Joint Intelligence Committee, Secretary (Security), and director of National Police Academy respectively. (ANI)

The more funny part is "IF" anything done by the IB is perceived to be working for the congress, it will be politicized and communalized as congress appointing a Muslim for votebank and in turn a Muslim worked for congress.

I really wonder under current circumstances a Muslim should even hold any high office.

He is well-qualified, very talented and deserve this position.

It would be wrong to assume such thing. I think, we should not judge everything from the prism of religion. Even Chief justice and Vice-president are Muslim.
