Is DRDO version of recoil less rifle being used in army? I heard due to its advanced composites, it is much lighter. Which of the two recoil less rifles does the troops prefer?

Carl Gustaf 84mm RCL also known as 84mm RL in standard multi-purpose RL in Army and it is licensed produced.Though improved by DRDO time to time, The optics on this and certain ammunition all are made and design in India and mass produced.

Their are variants of this in Army, MK1/2/3, MK3 is the lightest and replacing MK2 from Army ..

MK2 : 14.5 Kgs with Weight of weapon complete with telescopic sight and bipod

MK3 : 10 Kgs with Weight of weapon complete with telescopic sight and bipod

Their is no personal choices their in Army, But lighter is always preferred from view of a foot solider.

But KB, isn't it true that even today ~70-75% of the components in IA Carl Gustaf are imported? This after SAAB claimed full transfer of technology when the contract was signed in 2005.

Its not true, Almost all the component are manufacture in India, From trigger to barrel comes from various independent firms in India under contract with Government, Their manufacturing numbers are on various components are proof that things are not imported.

SAAB ToT of 2005 does not include the barrel metallurgy which ARDE made ..

One more thing is that they have some new kind of ammuintion paired with an intelligent sight, so that the ammo can be programmed to airburst.

The titanium alloy metallurgy the speak of is used in our MK3 ( Tanks and Artillery tubes too ) as well as theirs even in the breach, Reducing 3kgs can be logically explained by reduced barrel length.

The sights and ammunition are separate acquisition from main weapon.The sights can be mounted as per need is same if available, For example we also use thermal sights made by BEL under license from ARDE :

If needed in future we can mount smart sights as well with electronic programmable ammunition from Israel or our own or SAAB itself. Presently 84mm RL HE rounds are manually programmed for air-burst.
