CVRDE/TATA Kestrel crossing a 46m MLC-70 manually launched bridge during demonstration held at DefExpo 2016 in Goa.

The turret installed on the Kestrel is the 'Medak' turret which is a license produced BMP-2 turret from Ordnance Factory Medak. The Medak turret's primary armament is the 2A42 30x165mm autocannon which is also license produced by Ordnance Factory Trichy, the co-axial machine gun is the 7.62x54mmR PKTM which is also manufactured by OFT, and the ATGM launcher is the 9S428 which launches the SACLOS 9M113 Konkurs missile, both of which are license produced by BDL as well.

The Kestrel, like contemporary wheeled armoured fighting vehicles is capable of being fitted with a wide variety of turrets and was showcased with the Kongsberg MCT-30 unmanned turret during DefExpo 2014. The Kongsberg MCT-30 turret showcased during DefExpo 2014 was armed with an ATK Mk.44/Bushmaster II 30x173mm autocannon, FN MAG co-axial machine gun, and additionally with a Protector RCWS armed with a M2 .50 HMG and the FGM-148 Javelin ATGM.

The Wheeled Armoured Platform 8*8 (WhAP) has been jointly developed by the TATA SED group and the Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (VRDE) which is a subsidiary of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)

The vehicle is the initial trails phases as reports suggest that it matches the Indian army’s specifications and is likely to replace the the aging Soviet BMPs of the mechanised infantry wing.

Due to its armoured capabilities, this vehicle is an ideal potent for anti naxal operations and due to its amphibious capabilities, these vehicles can patrol the muddy areas of the Rann of Kutch where the temperature is unpredictable and water levels of the Harami Nala (the water body of Rann of Kutch) can change drastically within hours.

TATA Kestrel*********************************
Its not Kestrel any more. Its WhAP.

TATA has already showcased it for IA as well as international customer, but as of now IA has not float any RFP for APC. TATA on their part has said that it would be ready for production by 2019.
