Fenku's second surgical strike on the country after the failed demonetization. The new army chief is giving statements left, right and center on 2 front wars without properly looking at balance of forces situation. Pravin bakshi was responsible for meticulously building up IA strength on eastern borders. He needs to be appointed as CDS to give sensible advice to fenku and thanedar Parrikar.

How about you take your garbage somewhere at FB, This section is not for political gali galoch ..

PM should not be disrespected nor Army chief, Whatever decision taken is based on merits and logic with current intelligence setup, Besides no one knows better than Army itself ..

Well said, and to the point.

No frontier role for women till society changes: General Bipin Rawat

NEW DELHI: In what would rule out the induction of women soldiers for frontline combat duty in the near future, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has said that unless there is a change of mindset in society, both genders would not be able to work together in forward areas.

General Rawat, who took over as the Army Chief on December 31, said that a call on the role of women in frontline combat can only be taken if they ‘share equal responsibility like their male counterparts’, questioning whether they would be comfortable ‘sleeping under a tank’ with their colleagues.

“A tank has a crew of three people. What do they do when they roll out or are in combat, they just sleep under the tank. They cook and sleep under the tank, there is no toilet facility or separate accommodation.

So, if it is one woman or two women and a male, if they are all willing to sleep under the tank and if the women folk are willing to accept it? (sic),” the Army Chief said.

General Rawat said that it is a misnomer that there is no combat role for women, pointing out that officers have been inducted in arms like army air defence and the Corps of Signals. However, he gave several examples to make his point on the ‘difficulties’ on the frontier, asking if women are “willing to move out” in harsh environments.

“In Arunachal, the longest patrol that goes to the border is a 35 day patrol. At night, when you halt, all that happens in a blue sheet is pulled out and everybody sleeps under it together, there is no toilet. If women are willing to move out in that environment, the women folk themselves need to take a call,” General Rawat said in response to queries at the annual Army Press Conference ahead of Army Day.

The Army Chief is of the view that women have to take a call on whether they can serve on the frontline. “We have to look at our society and see, once the women are willing to take this kind of call, we will address this issue,” he said.

The Army Chiefs comments come after a major shift by the air force in 2015 on the role of women on combat duty. The Air force allowed woman pilots to fly fighter jets after government permissions starting 2015, with the first set of pilots likely to take to jets by the mid of this year.

The Navy too has initiated discussions on opening up more roles for women officers.

In recent outburst by few Jawans of Indian paramilitary and Indian army about indecent living conditions and tyranny of Officer class, its with a heavy heart that i am ranting regarding the inhuman and corrupt practices of Army and paramilitary forces. The huge abyss that lies between living standard of Jawans and Officer is deplorable act of Injustice and has reflection of British Army times where only royals joined the britsh army and Indians were treated as second grade citizens. This lineage has been carried on by Indian army in the name of traditions. The treatment of Jawans by the so called gentlemen is inexcusable.

I want to highlight some points
1. Why IMA main hall is still named after british." The chetewood hall." Why celebrate the oppressor.
2. Why the Pictures of British generals still hang in the chetewood hall.
3. Why during dinners Indian sepoys are dressed as servants and serve to these army officers like they are nawabs." Is it a tradition?
4. Why Indian army officers mess and living conditions are so better. Any body wants to argue with images where the Jawans eat and officers eat. " Sky and ground"
5. Why there is different in rations of Jawans and Officers" So officer should have more and quality food
6. Why the corruption is so rampant in the army that whistle blowers are termed as mental patients and locked up.
7. Why at forward areas army officers and paramilitary sell food and fuel to locals like mafia.
8. Why corruption is so rampant that every indigenous weapon program has been tried to be scuttled>
" T-90 vs Arjun, Insas,Nag.
8. Why there is Sahyak system in the army" Why these Nawabs need a helpers. A grown man being custodian of british raj"

I can on on about less the gentlemen behaviour by these officers and in every argument they hide behind valor and courage. Indian Army needs reforms and immediate to end these british culture. They are Indian citizens and they are not above scrutiny of Indian law

If u think officers live a lavish lifestyle then u are absolutely wrong, especially these captains & majors, they undergo loads of courses and many have died in between those courses as well........... a normal lieutenant lives in the same bunker along with jawans

all i can see is that media is trying to create rift b/w army vs paramilitary and non officers vs officers.

Well that's what you think. My father worked with Indian Army and this things is not new. these things are real and they happen. Why you think so many rift are taking place between officers and Jawan. Senior officers also do it their Junior officers.

You forgot that army 1.3 million with about 6-7 lakh infantry eVERY OFFICER IN INDIAN ARMY IS NOT POSTED AT LOC. I never condemned theiry bravery and i never will but as i said before everywrong doing cannot hide behind the sacrifice of some. British traditions in indian army are real and the treatment towards Jawan is real too and if you are blind to see it please do not come up the only argument of bravery sacrifice and. 1.3 million army about a 1 lakh officers, 1.2 millions are JCO,NCO and OR ad you think there is not difference between officer and Jawans day to day living, that is turning pigeon and closing your lies

Media is not trying to create rift. Rift has been there fort a long time and its just getting the attention it deserves

Before misjudging the Indian Army, I request you to read this article
http://swarajyamag.com/defence/the-...paint-all-uniformed-people-with-the-bad-brush
These infantrymen are our people, and we cannot simply ignore their complaints no matter how embarrassing those sound. They have asked the general public and the government for help, and the help must come.

Throwing rule books at them to silence them will be a bad idea.

Nobody is misjudging the Indian Army as an institution, however if something bad is happening then we cannot remain blind to it. This is our responsibility to investigate and if the issues are found to be real then strong action must be taken, culprits must be brought to book.

If required we must bring in structural changes/reforms.

Sahayak system in the army has it's own merits (or demirit). For a newly commissioned officer posted at LOC or other remote areas sahayak act as their buddy or even a mentor who bunk with the officer for around 3 month. The real bonding of a officer and troops start from here.

New officers who are barely 23 - 25 Lean a lot for "sahayak" who although outranked by the officer but has more experience and more knowledge about the work culture in the unit.

OTOH sahayak benefitted this for not doing general duty such as sentry duty for 4~ hours standing at their post in the middle of the freezing night.

===============

Regarding this video of Jawan Yagya Pratap complaing about mistreatement by officers in the name of sahayak is also the reality especially for the sahayak posted in peace areas.

But that's is the fault of a particular officer not the system itself. It seems that he is posted with the CO or if he is posted with a Major or other officer of the unit then it's the fault of the CO that he didn't took any action.

Who are the outsiders?

Indian Army allowed several traditions since the British period to continue because it suites certain people, no parallel exists in other armies (e.g. personal helper, which for all practical purposes is nothing but slavery).

Indian defense and police forces may require legal and structural changes to be in sync with the current needs and expectations.

Staff training regime may change, particularly, the officer trainees must be trained to behave more appropriately with their staff.

Scrap the Sahayak system which is nothing but forced labor. Nobody will complain but the officers and their wives :biggrin2:. Let the soldiers do the sentry duty and all the usual stuff they are paid/trained for, preserve their dignity.

Army seeks abolition of sahayak system

The Indian Army has recommended to the government to abolish the age-old and much abused system of having ‘sahayaks’ (batmen) for officers, at least in peace stations, Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat said on Friday.

Sahayaks are ordinary soldiers doing the work of a manservant in the houses of officers in static posts like the army headquarters in Delhi. They will be replaced by civilian servants.:nono:

In field areas, sahayaks are still required o_O because of the buddy-pair concept in the infantry. We proposed to the government to have buddies only in forward areas,” Gen Rawat said in his annual media interaction ahead of Army Day on January 15.

While the navy and the air force abolished the sahayak system long ago, the army has received flak from parliamentary panels several times for continuing with the “demeaning and humiliating practice of employing jawans (soldiers) as sahayaks”.

The announcement comes in the wake of a video from Lance Naik Yagya Pratap Singh, posted in 42 infantry brigade. “I had written an application to the prime minister in which I have said that soldiers, who act as sahayaks, should not be made to polish the shoes of officers,” he said.

Lance Naik Singh said when the Prime Minister’s Office wrote back to his brigade asking it to investigate the matter, he was tortured by the brigadier. “The brigadier tortured me to such an extent that I would have taken an extreme step,” he said in the video.

Asked to comment, Gen Rawat said sahayaks should not be forced to do something they do not like doing happily.

The army currently has more than 25,000 sahayaks allocated to serve officers from the rank of a major or colonel. At times, even the junior commissioned officers get sahayaks. “Ours is a very large army wherein individual grievances can’t be ruled out. We have taken cognisance of Singh’s complaints,” said an officer.

No more fun for the officers' wives. Nobody to carry their shopping bags and wash their laundry.

Why should taxpayers bear the burden of paying for the civil servants? This practice must be summarily abolished. No exceptions.
