INS Kesri

INS Kesari (see photos), the Navy's latest amphibious vessel of the Shardul-class will be commissioned into service on April 5 at the IN Jetty at Naval Base, Vizag. The GRSE-built vessel is the second in the Shardul-series of landing ships. I was at INS Kadamba, Karwar in January 2007 when INS Shardul was inducted. Here's the rest of what the Navy sent out today on the induction:

Is it so hard to at least give them camo lifejackets?
During any amphibious assault the life vest stays till u are over or in water, Once on ground u dismount it, Logic is simple its easier to spot Suriver over green and Blue water from miles away compare to camo life vests, This vest are for rescue hence they are in yellow and Orange..

Country flag
France uses camo jackets, it is more dangerous to be a target than body recovery issues.

RFP issued for India navy amphibious vessels (LHD type)

India today took a major step towards upgrading its Navy's maritime air reconnaissance capability and amphibious warfare strength by deciding to order four each of P8I Poseidon aircraft and Landing Pontoon Docks (LPDs) totally worth over USD 5 billion.

The four LPDs, on the lines of INS Jalashwa that India bought from the US for USD 50 million in 2007, would come at a cost of Rs 16,000 crore and a global tender would be issued for its under the Defence Ministry's 'Buy and Make' production policy. Under this, India would make the warships through license from a foreign firm.

The 17,000-tonne Jalashwa, formerly USS Trenton, is a Austin class amphibious warfare ship that can carry about 1,000 fully armed army men and has four beach landing craft and six helicopters.

The two decisions were taken at the meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) headed by Defence Minister A K Antony and attended by the three armed forces chiefs and the defence secretary this evening, ministry sources told PTI.

The decisions come close on the heels of Antony and Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma's visit to the US last week when they had met the American security top brass to discuss both business and defence cooperation.

Now the proposals for both these purchases would be sent to the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) for clearance, the sources added.

^^Used to happen in the olden days when the gunpowder got wet, and the rifle wouldn't fire, but that was like...150 years ago.
It was a rainy day when the Continentals defeated the Hessians at the Battle of Trenton, I believe. Much bayonet work was involved

As they marched, Washington rode up and down the line, encouraging the men to continue.[27] General Sullivan sent a courier to tell Washington that the weather was wetting his men's gunpowder. Washington responded, "Tell General Sullivan to use the bayonet. I am resolved to take Trenton."

Kunal is something wrong with these numbers? 16,000 crores is 3.2 billion man. How can 4 amphibious ships cost $800 million dollars each? 1600 crores makes more sense.
San Antonio class costs Between $1,282 million and $1,923 million..
Mistral class $600 million..

I guess the numbers are right..
