Well we cant build everything, with such poor marketing by DRDO what we build and design will never be exported. So might as well buy from Brazil.

However i see hope of Ember and HAL join in JV for commercial jets.

There is a way they can sell it , appoint Mahindra-GippsAero as a distributor , they may sell it .
But again we are talking about Indian Bureaucracy .

Then things are changing in India too , (if I am not wrong - I guess).

IAF Procures Four Simulators For AJT Aircraft

Thursday, May 10, 2012
By : Defence News Admin

The Indian Air Force has purchased four simulators for Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) aircraft and more such machines have been contracted by the force for simulated training.

The Indian Air Force has purchased four simulators for Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) aircraft and more such machines have been contracted by the force for simulated training. The aim is to enhance the training curriculum of it's rookie pilots.

Defence Minister A. K. Antony in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha said, "IAF has already procured four simulators for Hawk AJT aircraft. Further, eight simulators of IJT aircraft, have also been contracted for."

Acquisition of more such trainer platforms is a part of the overall modernisation process of the armed forces. The new combat aircraft which the IAF is constantly acquiring will be manned by pilots using older fighter jets which are due to be phased out in a timely fashion.

The IAF is facing a shortage of pilots and the government has taken a number of steps to check that. Improvement of job profile of IAF pilots is a continuous process in view of the job specific requirements and operational necessity. Besides, the Short Service Commission for flying branch has been modified to make young men eligible for induction in the flying branch.

The Defence Minister also said that choppers are being purchased to replace the ageing Mi-8 aircraft of IAF's Communication Squadron. Also a contract for procurement of AW-101 helicopters was signed with Agusta Westland in February 2010 to replace the ageing Mi-8 helicopters.

With more and more helicopters, planes and fighter jets set for induction in the coming years, the IAF is gearing up to hire more pilots and prepare the necessary infrastructure to support these sophisticated weapon systems.

Aakash missile system handed to Indian Air Force Now 500- Range

The Indian Air Force (IAF) got a huge boost as far as its weapons inventory is concerned, as it received the fully indigenously designed and produced medium range surface-to-air missile, Akash. The handing over ceremony will be held today, and will be attended by high ranking officials from the defence ministry, including the Indian defence minister, AK Antony.
Akash is believed to be the Indian equivalent of the American designed Patriot missiles and the Israeli designed Barak missiles. The MIM-104 Patriot played a very important role during the 1991 Gulf war, during which it successfully destroyed a number of Iraqi SS-1 Scud missiles.

India Selects Pilatus Basic Trainer

India Selects Pilatus Basic Trainer

NEW DELHI

Looks India have 150 trainer planes now. please can you guys stop planning, can you show where your planes are
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
India has selected the Swiss Pilatus PC-7 aircraft as its beginning trainer for Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots.

The Swiss aircraft, along with Grob's G-120 TP, Embraer's EMB-312 Super Tucano, Finmeccanica's M-311, Hawker Beechcraft's T-6C Texan-II and Korean Aerospace's KT-1 participated in the flight trials last year.

"Of the three short-listed firms from the U.S., Korea and Switzerland, the bid made by Pilatus has emerged the lowest," says India's chief of air staff, Air Marshal P.V. Naik.

The total cost for the basic trainer is likely to be around $1 billion. The aircraft are expected to be delivered over the next two years.

"We have started price negotiations with the Swiss vendor for supplying 75 aircraft to train new pilots," Naik says.

After the Pilatus deal is signed, the IAF is likely to send some of its young pilots to Switzerland for training. "As we need a better trainer aircraft, we hope to induct the PC-7 into our fleet in the next two years for training the new pilots," Naik says.

The PC-7 turbo trainer is a low-wing tandem-seat training aircraft, capable of all basic training functions including aerobatics, instrument, tactical and night flying.

"Offering a reliable and economic training platform, the docile behavior of the PC-7 Mk. II in the hands of a beginner delivers a confidence-building environment for inexperienced cadets," the company says. "With its highly cost-efficient Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-25C engine, it provides the lowest engine operating costs of all turboprop trainer aircraft."

The Swiss vendor has sold about 500 aircraft during the past three decades to 21 air forces worldwide.

Following the grounding of the indigenous HPT-32 Deepak trainers by the state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. in 2009, the IAF has been scouting for a basic trainer.
