    NEW DELHI: In two crucial appointments in the IAF, AirMarshal R K Sharma is going to take over as the new Eastern Air Command chief at Shillong, while Air Marshal S Sukumar will replace him as the new IAF deputy chief at the Air Headquarters here on Saturday.
    Air Marshal Sharma will be in-charge of IAF in the entire eastern theatre at atime when India is undertaking a massive upgrade of military infrastructure in the regionto strategically counter China. Air Marshal Sukumarwill guide all the modernization plans of the force, including the almost$20 billion MMRCA (medium multi-role combat aircraft) project to acquire 126 French Rafale fighters.
