India's political class may not be up to the task of leading India toward prosperity. For them politics is all about family as the ruling dynasty, the Nehru-Gandhi clan is rivalled only by the Kims of N Korea and the Sauds of Saudi Arabia. This family business syndrome afflicts almost all parties, not only Congress party.

If the mango indian people want to understand the attitude of the Indian elite(i.e upper class, upper caste, speak english at home, went to a elite western style boarding school at some hill station, travels in an expensive car driven by a uniformed chauffer--those elites) in one sentence....

They feel that they have more in common culturally and in class with the elites in the west(or even in Pakistan) than with their smelly, dirty, unsophisticated middle and lower class compatriots.

Once you realise this, their attitude towards the country makes complete sense. This includes the political, industrial and bollywood elite....

Well said. There is a certain contempt for the `mango man` from English speaking elite that includes the media, public school educated, St Stephens alumni, upper class, etc. Earlier it used to be to imitate our former colonial masters, the British - these days we imitate the Americans.

What does feckless mean? Something that is devoid of feck? Then, what does feck mean?

I went to an elite 100 year old ICSE school where there were plenty of Industrial and Bollywood elite(some classmates had those large walkie-talkie type mobile phones way back in 97-98 iirc), I got a very good dose.

I interact with these chaps regularly.

Infact my own cousin brother is one of them...ive had many arguments with him regarding this. They try very hard to differentiate themselves from "Indians".
