India wins crucial hearing on Kishenganga Hydro-electric Project at international court

New Delhi: The International Court of Arbitration has accepted India's position on the Rs.3600-crore Kishenganga Hydro-electric Project (KHEP) in north Kashmir at The Hague today.

The arbitration court took the decision after Pakistan had filed an appeal that India was diverting the flow of the river and violating Indus Water Treaty between the two countries.

Reacting to the court's decision, the Ministry of External Affairs said, "The award of the Court of Arbitration at the Hague today reaffirms the validity of India's position regarding the Kishenganga Hydro-electric project (KHEP) by allowing diversion of water from the KHEP as envisaged by India. It highlights once again that India is adhering to all the provisions of the Indus Waters Treaty."

In September last year, the arbitration court had asked India to stop permanent works on the 330 megawatt Kishenganga project on River Neelum in response to Pakistan's appeal for 'interim measures' against the dam.

Super like for this one, I was waiting for it since yesterday, looked around ICA website also to read the judgement and finally India won. Pakistan should have taken some clue from the Baglihar Dam case or the Atlantique incident when they went to ICJ which finally gave the judgement that the court had no jurisdiction in that matter.

Oh what will happen if the water does not flow in sudfficient quantity in Neelam valley?

More infiltration by the Pakistani terrorists?

Or Pakistani area of Neelam valley will get more exposed to Indian offensive operations ?

Or More water in wooler lake the Jhelum more flood prone during operations.

Or Indian can flood Pakistani upper ares?

As a noob who has seen several baki propaganda rona dhona shows, it seems we will have the ability to conrol and divert the water flow, which can be very effective in a war like situation, in case India decides to use this tool.

The main point is that this may put an end to all the whining from the Baki's. But again, they did not learn anything from Baglihar,
they will whine as usual.

Re: India Wins Kishenganga hydro-electric project dispute with Pakista

When asked what would be the impact of Salal, Dul Hasti and Baglihar projects after their completion on Pakistan's agriculture as per "faulty designs", he said India would have the capacity to control the water and can stop water for 28 days at Headmarala, Sialkot, from where the two most strategic canals come out would get dried and the defence of Sialkot would be weakened as the said two canals had been constructed with the aim to strengthen the country's defence. The two canals also play an important role in irrigating the major part of central Punjab.

This is a major blow for Pakistan India is going to control the waterflow into Pakistan.
India can do a lot of damage without firing one bullet. But all the water in Pakistan goes
thru India and the generosity of Indus treaty was never appreciated so tough luck.

Well, if they are not even grateful of the whole piece of land given which they have successfully turned into
a failed state, how can one expect any gratitude for some water.

Now pakis will think twice or even thrice before going to ICA/ICJ to dispute any dams constructed in India. I'm waiting to see how they react to this case.
