India, US to hold Malabar naval war games in April.

NEW DELHI: Cocking a snook at China, India and the US will hold the next edition of their Malabar naval war games in the Bay of Bengal in April. Since 1992, India has largely restricted the annual Malabar exercise to the western seaboard in Arabian Sea, except for the 2007 edition that was held in the Bay of Bengal.

The Malabar held on the eastern seaboard in 2007 had riled China, especially since it was also expanded to include Australian, Japanese and Singaporean navies as well. Beijing had lodged a strong protest against this "axis of democracy" emerging in the Asia-Pacific region with the eventual aim to "contain" it.

Promptly, an ultra-defensive India had ensured that for the next two-three years the Malabar was restricted to a bilateral exercise, even though both the Indian and American navies wanted it to be a regular multi-lateral engagement.

While the planning process for this year's Malabar is still underway, defence ministry sources say the exercise is going to be a major one, with the entire spectrum of naval manoeuvres being conducted.

Though India has refrained from inking "foundational" military agreements with the US like the Logistics Support Agreement (LSA), Communication Interoperability and Security Memorandum Agreement (CISMOA) and Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement for Geo-Spatial Cooperation (BECA), the two nations have set a scorching pace in undertaking joint combat exercises.

Indian and American armed forces have held as many as 60 exercises over the last seven-eight years. Malabar, which has often witnessed participation of aircraft carriers from the two sides, represents the high-end of this expanding military-to-military engagement.

Japan was to take part in the Malabar exercise last year also, but opted out after the horrific devastation wreaked by the massive earthquake-cum-tsunami in the country.

India will also be undertaking the Simbex exercise with Singaporean navy in March.

They are trying to get the info about what the INDIAN NAVY and the ARMED FORCES are equipped with and what sort of training is given and how well we are trained to face our enemies and pass on the information to the porkis and then providing them with the equipment which is needed for the porkis to attack us and overcome our strength.

They are trying to get the info about what the INDIAN NAVY and the ARMED FORCES are equipped with and what sort of training is given and how well we are trained to face our enemies and pass on the information to the porkis and then providing them with the equipment which is needed for the porkis to attack us and overcome our strength.

All the training and the latest equipment nothing when it comes to the delivery during the war and the cause of fighting. They are fighting to take what is not their property and we are fighting to defend what is our's. Finally the VICTORY is always ours ALWAYS.........

the latest example where US failed is in Russia-Georgian war, Georgian soldiers were trained for years with US soldiers and deployed in Afghan, but soldiers left their equipment and run for theirs lives similar to porkis surrender in 71 war.......

US only selling Pakistan what it needed for Minimum, US never offered AH-64 but Outdated Cobra, US only offer F-16 not F-18..

US is only one agreed to sell M777 & Javlin system to India so does P-8I & Latest C-130J & C-17 recently..

1. Drills & Exercise are part of Stratergic Plaining and Built up..

2. These Excerise one test itselfs agaisnt different weaponry systems and training, It very much like a Kilo class breaching a CBG defense shield and other to stop it and many other like this, One refined itself by trying again and again..

3. Radar signatures can be traced even by a spy fishing boat or Submarine, And yes i am saying enemy is always near to watch its enemy preparation, So radars in MKI or F-18 are in special training mode where it use a frequency which is not its real frequency though he can use his radar..

4. General public feed only Need to Know Information about these Drills, So don't get the Idea of Conspiracy which can be obvious in some people..

they are not selling AESA radar or some high tech equipment to porkis. India's long term strategic interests lie with the U.S and with no other nation.
russia is good for weapons supplier till such time that India starts indegenious development.

USA is a major supplier to the navy harpoon,p8i etc.... The. Barak development/Phalcon AWACS with Israel also had US playing an important role.

As always, Kunal has answered it really well. I will try to add some value.

for USA -

1. They are exercising against a Navy as close to the Chinese capabilities as possible (maybe slightly better in technology and training and slightly behind in numbers and firepower), that way the USN understand what strategies and tactics the opponent can produce and how to counter them - you get the general idea.
2. The USN gets to learn how a less technologically adapted navy performs and see what the strengths and weaknesses are, what processes they can learn from.
3. The USN also gets to see the development of Indian navy capabilities over time and can make assessments about similar processes in PLAN.

Indian Navy -
1. Obviously they learn from the Blue water navy practices of USN, which is invaluable.
2. IN also get to see/ watch the use of sophisticated equipment, that they can buy later.
3. The navy also can practice it's tactics and strategies against a superior force and find out strengths and weaknesses.
