Is there any benefit in membership?
This will pressurize Pakistan also when taking technology from China, N Korea and South Africa , to develop missiles. We can bring to round table and defame them that they are running the black market.

Plus may be India also had pressure from P5 to become part of this regime.

you`re right .... here`s the excerpt from the MTCR FAQ page at http://www.mtcr.info/english/FAQ-E.html

"Moreover, the MTCR Partners have explicitly affirmed that membership in the Regime provides no entitlement to obtain technology from another Partner and no obligation to supply it. "

Members usually benefit by blocking access to critical tech as per below provision

"Partners are bound by a “no-undercut” policy to consult each other before considering exporting an item on the list that has been notified as denied by another Partner pursuant to the MTCR Guidelines."

But, that`s also of no use to India since China is NOT a signatory to MTCR & Pak can merrily get the tech from them....... the only leverage we can get is by closely tracking the entire supply chain of all the relevant tech and hoping to net any transfers belonging to MTCR countries. question is : do we have the capabilities for this ?

Lastly, if MTCR is being peddled as a pre-condition to a UNSC Permanent Seat then I`d be highly skeptical of us signing up for it - occupying a Permanent Seat looks to be a very long ways away yet.
I am still wondering what the benefit of mctr would be and what a UN Security Council seat would mean for india? Especially if it does not come with any voting privilege.

Pakistan can still access technology from china via North Korea and from Russia via Ukraine like it currently does.

Too late for this. There are an equal amount of nuclear weapon states that are non NPT signatories as there are ones who have signed.

I know. I am just telling you that this is what NPT says.

If there is missile and nuclear proliferation going on next door it might not be a good time to have your hands chained to agreements?

Yes and this is why India is going for MTCR to put pressure in the region for such transfer of tech.

Now that`s something very interesting - I think it would be fair to say that the non-proliferation regime has not at all been effective , or wasn`t intended to be so in the 1st place ? :hehe:
see for example, the recent race to nuclearize the middle east post the US Iran deal...
To conclude, regimes like NPT & MTCR have always been meant to only control the pace of tech acquisition by competitors and are only 1 part of a larger equation

We are going to get few tech, which we need in short period of time. Developing those will take time.

NPT is out after nuke deal & de facto recognition of nuke weapons. NSG entry is keeping in mind we are nuke weapons state

NPT also has a commercial side. NPT is there to promote exclusively uranium power. Now with a few countries about to use thorium NPT is bound to fail. It also has nations pay top dollar to proliferating countries(that have signed NPT). Almost all nations in aq khan's network were NPT signatories.

Whenever India try to get something for itself, just to create troubles for India and hamper its efforts, China will raise the same for Pakistan also.

What is the permanent solution for this issue?

Keep a pro western outlook. Being non aligned and overly friendly with Russia is
What put india in this position.
