India ready to give Pakistan 'benefit of the doubt', says Salman Khurshid - Indian Express

India is prepared to give historic rival Pakistan "the benefit of the doubt" as the two countries strive for peace, Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid has said.

The nuclear-armed neighbours have since independence been at loggerheads over Kashmir, which is divided and administered separately by India and Pakistan but claimed in full by both.

India regularly accuses Pakistan's army of providing covering fire for armed rebels who cross the border and then mount attacks and in an interview with The Australian newspaper published Monday, Khurshid admitted the relationship was fraught.

"We talk to Pakistan periodically and in terms of personal gestures we receive great warmth," he said.

"But the on-the-ground reality and the results of our meetings are very disappointing."

However, with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif last month vowing to go the "extra mile" to make peace with India, Khurshid said Delhi would take him at his word.

"Pakistan has a lot of very, very difficult issues to deal with at home," he was quoted as saying.

"Our view is that we should give them time, not at our cost, of course, but that we should give them the benefit of the doubt.

"When Mr Nawaz Sharif says he wants peace and good relations with India, we take him at his word."

But with recent shootings at the border among the heaviest since a ceasefire agreement in 2003, Khurshid pointed out that Pakistan has not yet followed through on its promise of top-level military meetings to sort out better arrangements in Kashmir.

"If they can address the dismantling of the infrastructure of terrorism, that would be a good start," he told the newspaper.

I think Salman Khurshid is the biggest ISI mole!!!

Remember he was hosting Pakistan PM on his visit to Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti's tomb in Ajmer and dining with him despite it being a private visit while Pak intruders were cutting off heads of slain Indian soldiers.

The greater question would be is India ready to give the benefit of doubt to Khushed for messing up India's foreign policy?

Most probably Yes ! It's already evident, isn't it ? CONmen have come to power since our independence mainly due to benefit of doubts. One should should not be surprised, if it repeats this time as well.

Onething is sure though, madam has no doubt on Salman Khurshid's (in)abilities, that's why he is barking again and again.

The last FM.was at sea, but what adds to injury is that Khushed pretends to be highbrow, suave and educated & comes out as a village idiot when it comes to foreign affairs.

Yet, could it be Manu who is messing up his FMs reputation by making them implement his cockananny stupidity as foreign policy?

What policy, this word is as foreign as imported Italian pasta.

There is no direction or long term plan in our foreign policy. Fly by night operators, pickle brained ministers, whimsical wheeler's & dealers and some jack in the box, seem to be coming & going through revolving doors casting a smoke screen on the public and challenging our collective perception of how things should be done.

Khursheed is mentally challenged, to mix diplomacy with a greasy biryani and host pakis when they come visiting on private personal trips.

Mauni baba is a clever old bloke, I doubt he has anything to do with Khurshid's idiocy. Perhaps, Khurshid has blessings of RG and his pearls of wisdom.
