India ranked no. 1 in sending Scientists and Engineers to US

Continuing the trend, India tops among all the Asian countries as being the birthplace for immigrant engineers and scientists in the US. According to a report the country sends about 950,000 scientists and engineers out of Asia’s total 2.96 million, representing an increase of 85% from 2003.

The number of scientists and engineers residing in the US has risen from 21.6 million to 29 million were born in India. The calculations are based from 2003 to 2013 and the 10 year increase also encountered a significant growth in the figure of immigrant scientists and engineers from 3.4 million to 5.2 million.

It was observed that the immigrants went from making up 16 percent of the science and 18 percent of the engineering workforce, the report said as the 63 percent of the American immigrant scientists and engineers were naturalized inhabitants, 22 percent were permanent residents and 15 percent temporary visa holders.

As per the reports it was also revealed that the migrant scientists and engineers were likely to earn post-baccalaureate degrees than their US-born equivalents. Between the immigrants present in the workforce of science and engineering workforce, the largest portion about 18% of them worked in computer and mathematical sciences, while 8% of them worked in engineering.

Life scientist, computer and mathematics scientist and social and related scientist were the three occupations that encountered substantial immigrant employment growth from 2003 to 2013 as stated by the report.

Other countries have also sent a large number of immigrants to the US, 53 percent of US immigrants’ scientists and engineers were from Philippines and the number from China adding up Hong Kong and Macau is increased to 34 percent.

Most common field for study among the immigrants’ scientist and engineers in 2013 were engineering, computer and mathematical sciences and social and related sciences.

and even if they returns back they gonna get that american job experience on their resume,

they get to live in nice locality,big and posh cities,

Are you guys taking into consideration the offshore Engineers sent on temporary job assignments by Indian firms like TCS, Infosys, Mindtree and Cognizant? The fact is majority of the Engineers in India today prefer to go abroad through an Indian company on a short term assignment. They get an opportunity to travel to many countries through the Indian firm, which sends them to different countries on short and medium term projects.

One of silver linings is many of China's start-ups were founded by home-coming Chinese.

To name a few Tencent, Baidu, Sohu and.... prominently. And many of them are listed in Nasdaq.

Till the day reservations in goverment jobs and higher education are not scrapped this sad phenomena will keep repeating itself

there are many IITians in my family who even after trying there level best count get a decent goverment job or loan for there calliber but when they went to USofA now are earning in millions of $$s per annum

no they cannot but what me thinks that their goal is to keep next generation high tech innovations to their home ground,
even after indias rise,
india and china would become countries just a mega manufacturing hubs for manufacturing their sh*t,
and 2nd class sub innovations,

for new generation tech innovation requires time and hugh money and west is already ahead,
but with rise of economy indian pvt.companies should start do the same,

meaning investing for r&d instead of dumping money at foreign bank accounts,
which gonna benefit west again,

that r&d invest gonna create demand and importance of intellects,

only then innovators,intellectuals,top educated people would find benefit for their careers or purpose for staying at their home countries.
