India negotiates for more AEW systems

The Indian ministry of defence is in negotiations to purchase an additional airborne early warning system from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).

If the deal goes ahead, the AEW system will be deployed on an Ilyushin Il-76 transport aircraft, as with the three systems IAI supplied last year.
India's AEW aircraft are designed to integrate information from sensors carried on a number of manned and unmanned platforms.

I don't think this repeat order will use IL-76, rather an AEW variant of popular airliner like 737 A-319 or 330 etc.

Yes Nitesh, ACM said so in his last interview with NDTV. I think we made a mistake by choosing IL-76 for the last two AEWs, we should have moved to G550 platform.

Why aren't we buying well known AWACS such as the Hawk Eye instead of hybridizing the Phalcon and the IL 76 or any other aircraft?

Then there was that joint venture between the DRDO and Embraer to produce AEW&C aircraft.
