No our radar is good that is not problem, any other radar will have same problem, here this will explain what i am saying.

area in the shadow is the problem, plus land radar looks up, so the cruise missile will be launched in such a way that it will evade the radar by using the shadow area or where the radar coverage is not their, or even terrain hugging missile.
Great cool , i understood now :hail:. But this will might be a common problem around the globe

So u have missile capability , but we lack sophisticated Radars which can track down stealthy low flying cruise missiles

Correct me if im wrong

The radar is credited with range accuracy of 50 meters, an azimuth accuracy of 0.3 degrees and an altitude accuracy of 2,000 ft. at 100 naut.mi. distance. Resolution in range is given as 200 meters and as 3 degrees in azimuth. The radar features electronic stabilization between -6 and +5 degrees.

The radars are in production at the factory site of THALES in Limours, France in cooperation with Euro-Shelter, GTIE Air & Defence, LATecis - Latécoère group, Schleifring and Sermati. Since the product launch in 2008, the GM 400 radar has already been purchased by Canada (2), Estonia (2), Finland (12), France (2), India (20), Malaysia (1) and Slovenia (2). TRS, which includes Thales Deutschland, SERCO GmbH, located in Bonn and EADS Deutschland GmbH in Unterschleissheim, is supplying Germany with six Ground Master 400 long-range air defense radars. EADS will supply the identification friend-or-foe module MSSR 2000 I for the radar sets. The contract is for the Aktives Radarrundsuchgerät für den Einsatzführungsdienst (ARED) program and is valued at about $140 million. TRS and Thales Germany will work with local German companies, to replace the six Thales Medium-Power Radars supplied in the late-1970s. TRS is contracted to supply the new radars by 2015.

we possibly hav other such advanced system also, :yey:

Yes. Anti-Aircraft Guns can be used to take out subsonic cruise missiles esp terrain hugging ones. Its esp useful in mountainous/hilly areas, iirc.
Set up two AAC guns on opposite sides, and form an arc, it'll act as a wall of steel.
My very crude graphic illustration.

(mountain)^(gunarc)<I(cm)>(gunarc)^(mountain)
Or put a Rajinikant with an Anti-Material Rifle.

that does not show the real picture, BTW all the civilian radars are now connected and IAF has accesses to that data in real time.
opps sorry I mean those are SAM coverage

CMD is a must have system for us, BMD is definitely not sufficient.

India's Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) system will soon be ready for active deployment and Phase II of the India's BMD program will also start soon .BMD System will provide crucial air defence capability against Ballistic Missile fired out at Major Cities of India, but Development of India's Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) had made countries like Pakistan to shift their Research into smaller and low profile Cruise missile to counter India's BMD which will make their Ballistic missiles highly ineffective .

The Babur (Hatf-7) land-attack cruise missile which was inducted in 2010 and has been tested eight times since, Pakistan's newest cruise missile the air-launched Ra'ad (Hatf-8) has been tested four times in all. These cruise missiles are engineered to deliver either conventional or nuclear payloads.

Ballistic missile threats from our neighbours will always remain a great concern for India and credible defence against them is the need of the hour, but current focus should also include Cruise missile Defence (CMD).

Current level of surface to air missiles deployed can take out enemy aircrafts and short range Ballistic missile but there success rate to take down Cruise missiles are still very low, INS Hanit a Sa'ar 5-class corvette of the Israeli Navy which was equipped with Barak 1 surface-to-air missiles was still hit by Hezbollah fired C-802 anti-ship cruise missile, Patriot SAM batteries also failed to detect and take down Cruise missiles fired from Iraqi forces in early phase of the operation Iraqi freedom in 2003 .

India slowly has been seeing emergence of Cruise missiles among its neighbours and threat of cruise missile proliferation and credible defence against them is still unavailable. Cruise missiles are virtually undetectable and highly survivable, even in the face of modern missile defences. Cruise missiles have tremendous advantages over ballistic missiles in defeating existing missile defences.

Pakistanis on other hand by keeping their cruise missiles Nuclear capable have blurred the distinction between tactical and strategic weapons creating a degree of uncertainty in the minds of Indian Planners. Since both Babur and Ra'ad cruise missiles can be used in a conventional or nuclear role.

Cruise missile defence (CMD), unlike ballistic missile defence, is relatively new and technologies developed to deal with this threat are likely to emerge in the coming years and India needs to also focus on this front. Cruise missiles unlike Ballistic missile are smaller and easily deployable and harder to detect when in transit. Cruise missiles on other hand are becoming more Intelligent and lethal owing to sophistication of technologies like GPS, composite materials, computers and satellites. Cruise missiles are also highly cost effective and can be manufactured at the faster rate.

In another scenario Possession of Cruise missiles in hands of terrorist will make especially India cities and coastal areas vulnerable if they are fired close to Indian border or sea lane. India while preparing itself from Ballistic Missile threats will also soon need to focus on imminent Cruise missile threats and need to improve and develop technologies for Cruise missile defence (CMD).

thanks for info

BTW I think India needs Nirbhay 2 with 2,000 KM range, with SLCM and ALCM versions.

Cruise Missile Defence is relatively easier, simpler, lower tech than BMD.
One can use SAMs, MANPADS, Drones, Jets, Choppers, Guns to take out Cruise missiles, but to take out a missile traveling at 9km/second is a totally different ballgame.

Further to what @sayareakd said,

you can't fight the earth's curvature. Maybe having aerostat's and with a few drones in the air you can increase coverage area.

If you can think out of box then their is also cheap option for the identification of cruise missiles.

put small BFSR on this

http://www.iai.co.il/sip_storage/FILES/7/38207.pdf

and it can stay in air for unlimited period, BFSR weight is 30 kg and this ELECTRIC TETHERED OBSERVATION PLATFORM weight is 20 kg.

We can put this in area where cruise missile are supposed to pass (in places where radar coverage is not their) and make them network centric.

Nuke Tipped Paki Cruise Missiles would be the single biggest threat to India.

Robust Barak 8 Network near the Coast and LRSAM near the Major Population Centres along the Border should be a Priority.

So what we actually need to do is to increase the radar coverage in a Network-centric environment which can detect any incoming cruise missile in the shadow areas, then rest of the job can be done by various interceptors or means !?

satellite can track them, we need more military satellites up in the sky, keeping track, plus radars on ground, air and even in space.
