The IA soldier's camo may have been originally for serving in another area such as the foothills of the Himalayas.

Javelins were on the cards ever since the US military got it for the joint exercise some time back. IA was impressed with it. It will in no way come at the expense of the Nag as both of them are different. Javelin is man portable, Nag is tank and heli mounted. Both together can create another "Longewala" when the time comes.

Spike falls only in thar desert not in Israeli desert..

Both are fire and forget ATGMs unlike others are laser guided or wire..

javelin is good no doubt about it but its way toooo expensive so...dont we have alternatives...?? not an expert so dont wanna create theories here but the fact is we are not facing a tank like abrams or lecrec compared to paki or chinese....i am sure russians , british , french , ukraine, poland might have cheaper but lethal answer to them...??!!!

Or you can simply choose 40 year old 2nd gen designs to fight a 21st century war. Indian Army is not PLA. They have options and they like to exercise them.

right its call bad habits, it will just continue like this over and over, until you break the cycle. china was behind indian in term of military technology and other stuf in 80's, but they know inorder to have a strong defense & industry it has to make its own stuff. US, french etc basically charge india with outrageous cost for their product.

It is the job of defence industry to keep up with the requirements of the armed forces. This is how it works in most countries including India. But in case of China, it is just opposite. Your armed forces are being slowed down by the lack of options. They have to wait for the domestic industry to come up with something that was available off shelf decades ago.

While major military powers are already using fire and forget, top attack atgms, both PLA and IA are still using 2nd gen Soviet missiles and are actually far from inducting them, more so in case of PLA.

Its indeed expensive but this missiles will have tot, License production may be just like Milan 2t in Country..
This will reduce unit price alot..


Why Javelin?:

1. Javelin is fire and forget missiles, once fired you can run for cover, Unlike in other ATGM you have to sit until Missile hit the target, It can compromise ATGM crew position, If there are Infantry and other Enemy units near by..

2. Its lethal coz its a top attack missiles, It can kill any tank without proper protection at roof which is thin part of the tank, this Missile ensure one shot one kill, Better the kill probability is better for crew survival..

3. Decoy such as smoke and Laser warning which are most common anti- atgm tactic do not effect Javelin guidance..

If you don't know abt ATGM types and category you can ask..

First Know what you speak..

AT-5/4 is used over BMP2
Milan2 used by portable AT units in Infantry
NAG is heavy class ATGM

Javelin is meant to replace Milan..
Spike failed in thar..



Similar Way, US operates:

Javelin : Infantry
Tow: For APC & IFV
Hellfire: Heavy class ATGM



There are different classes of ATGM..
