According to Navy sources India, China and Japan, the three independent patrolling nation against piracy, have started coordinated patrolling to improve the efficacy of their patrolling.

All other nations which patrol the waters operate under one of the three international task forces - Combine Task Force 150, Combined Task Force 151 and EU Naval Task Force operating under Operation Atlanta.

India, Japan and China will undertake coordinated patrolling under SHADE.

This is the first time India and China are coordinating in a military operation.

Japan and China have two ships and India has one operating.
