India today cancelled the visit by a military delegation to China after one of its members, hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, was denied visa.

The visit by the Integrated Defence Staff, scheduled to take place from January 10, was to take place as part of defence exchanges programme.

The action was taken in response to the provocative action by China of denying visa to IAF Group Captain M Panging, who hails from Arunachal and was to be part of the delegation, sources said.

The 30-member tri-Service Indian delegation, being led by an Air Vice Marshal-rank officer, was to visit Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai during the four-day trip.

China, which lays claim over Arunachal Pradesh, has often denied visa to those hailing from the state despite protests by India.

The visit by Indian military delegation was reciprocal to the one undertaken by the Chinese last month and is part of the confidence building measures between the two sides.

Finally. That was the minimum required response. Still not enough though.
There should be a good follow up.

What can be done ? We should have sent troops to Tibet in 1951 itself. Our generation is supposed to pay for those blunders.

I wonder what the Defence team does by going to China, apart from some wonderful sight seeing and some dressed up military visits.

The visit has not been cancelled, instead of a 30 people team, they are sending a15 people team.
China wants little bit of respect from India, to be able justify supporting India for permanent UN seat.
India must go ahead. Only after talking to china these issues Can be resolved. And also India must focus on the big picture,
That is to get permanent UN seat

Yes, I read that in the newspaper today.

The Arunachal Officer is not there.

The UN seat is elusive and one wonders if it will ever come to pass.

The national respect should not be bartered.

There are many ways to bring China to its senses, without going to war or not upsetting them!

You maybe right that we must focus on the big picture, but then who will respect a wimp and have such a wimp on the UNSC to decide the world future, which in anyway the UN cannot enforce!

Listen to yourself. China wants little respect from India, and India wants no respect? This is how you ask for respect by such deliberate provocations? Respect is earned not demanded.
