No.

We need to burn coal like crazy for the short term and then think about nuclear power, renewable power etc.

Coal Power Generation costs about <1.5 Rs including profits, cost of generation and plant costs.

Ref: Reliance's winning bid in UMPP in MP

Further Reading: Power Generation Costs, CAG reports, Coal Allocation Scams, Distcom scams etc.
The very fact that an average urban Indian ends up paying over 6-7s/unit of electricity is treason.
==

Nuclear power is tres expensif and then we don't have medical facilities or disaster relief infra in place in case there is a mishap.

Further Reading : Fukushima, Chernobyl, 3 Mile etc.

We need to also have increase use of wind power, hydel power and also solar power.

Also bio-fuels and related resources to supply energy consumption.

The news is great, but when we compare ourselves to the Chinese we look like an ant.
Just drawing your attention guys that, We are constructing four Nuclear power plants whereas Chinese are constructing 29 in one go. .

1. Chinese are part of P-5 so no issues with Nuclear power there.
2. Chinese don't give a rat's ass how many die/are displaced because of nuclear power
3. China's mainstay is still Coal followed by Hydropower.

We should burn coal like Crazy. And sorry for the preachy attitude but kick out Ambani type folks out of this sector, we need company's like L&T here.

I have no faith in country like China where 80% of 22 million GWH is produced by burning coal and polluting the environment for making products for the West, yet Greenpeace chasing India for pollution and using coal for electricity generation where production in one twentieth, mostly for domestic use.

Shame on you Greenpeace. You have been chasing the wrong horse.

Who cares about Greenpeace ?

India has huge reserves of coal. Coal Energy is cheap. Yet.

and ..and ..and what about the Transmission losses ? :high5:
India's network technical losses is 23.65% in 2013, compared to world average of less than 15%. The Government had pegged the national T&D losses at around 24% in the year 2011 & has set a target of reducing them to 17.1% by 2017 & to 14.1% by 2022.

This news is like glass 1/4 filled. A good news but only a milestone towards a long journey.

But a LOT of work needs to be done since a lot of places have no bijli in India.

Re: India becomes World's Third Largest Energy Producer overtaking Jap

I said two year ago in this forum. More coal you burn more rich you become.

More rich you become more hospitals you can build, more trees you can grow.

Also go private, go digital, go transparent and buy best of the technology.

Energy production from coal needs Skill, Scale and Speed.

BTW I was thinking that our hydro power production in not that efficient. Am I correct ? Please give your inputs on this.
