These partisans in picture as above ...have won out in the past war over stronger, stronger adversary and not by these machine gun , but by the great will. That's in the past !
It's clearly that today beside the spiritual necessity. it must be the troops with well equipped even sophisticated weapons from any friendly source , any nation ... why not !!!

It may be the best weapon since the invention of bread and butter (ever wonder why the russian themselves never bother to buy any?), still India can not export it because that would interfere with sales of P-800. Brahmos is a joint venture much like Fc-1 and K-8, joint venture only in name because one party (rightfully so) controls everything. Hundreds of K-8 have been exported to like a dozen countries, but noen through pakistan. The same goes for Brahmos. Brahmos and P-800 are practically the same thing (only folks who refuse to believe this are indians, who else?), and it will be exported en masse, just India will never see a penny from it.

Admiral Gorshkov Class Frigates, Russia
Vessel TypeMulti-purpose frigateBuilderSevernaya Verf (Northern Wharf Shipyard)OperatorRussian NavyCrew200Length130mBeam16mDisplacement4,500tFull specifications
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Admiral Gorshkov class frigates (project 22350) are being built by Severnaya Verf OJSC for the Russian Navy. The new multi-role, long-range frigates can be deployed in anti-submarine warfare and escort operations.

In October 2005 the Russian MoD placed an order with Severnaya Verf for the construction of the lead frigate, Admiral Sergei Gorshkov. It was named after the commander-in-chief of the Soviet Navy. The frigate is the first long-range maritime surface vessel built for the Russian Navy for 15 years.

The keel of the Admiral Sergei Gorshkov was laid in Severnaya Verf Shipyard in St Petersburg in February 2006. The first vessel is under construction and scheduled to be delivered by 2011. Construction of the second frigate, Admiral Kasatonov, began in September 2009. The vessel is expected to be delivered by 2012. The Russian Navy intends to build 20 vessels of the Gorshkov class by 2015. The new ships will serve the Baltic, Black Sea, Northern and Pacific fleets.

Design

In July 2003 Russian Naval Command approved the basic design of the frigate. It was developed by FSUE Severnoye PKB (Northern Design and Development Bureau) in St Petersburg. The design is based on the Talwar / Krivak IV class frigate developed by Russia for India and incorporates stealth technology.

"Gorshkov class frigates are designed to operate in multi-threat environments."Gorshkov class frigates are designed to operate in multi-threat environments and are equipped with long-range surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles, which can attack multiple targets simultaneously.

The frigates have an overall length of 130m, a beam of 16m and a draft of 16m. They have operational ranges of more than 4,000 miles and a displacement of 4,500t. The maximum speed of the vessels is 30kt. They can accommodate about 200 crew members.

Countermeasures / sensors

The Gorshkov class frigates will be fitted with 3D air search radars, Puma fire control radars and sonar suites with hull-mounted LF sonar and LF VDS sonar. They will also be equipped with Garpun-BAL SSM targeting and SAM control systems.

Weapons

The frigate class will be equipped with a new 130mm gun mount, a 30mm close-in weapon system (CIWS) gun and eight SS-NX-26 Yakhont anti-ship cruise missiles. Yakhont missiles can be fired against a group of naval surface vessels and single vessels.

Other weapon systems include a Medvedka-2 ASW (anti-submarine warfare) system and a Hurricane medium-range surface-to-air defence missile system. The vessels can also be fitted with 21in torpedo tubes to carry torpedoes.

Gorshkov will be the only Russian combat ship to be equipped with BrahMos missiles. BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile developed by the BrahMos Aerospace, a collaboration between Russia and India. The missile has a range of 180 miles (290km) and is capable of carrying a conventional warhead of up to 660lb.

Ground and sea targets can be successfully hit by the missile while travelling at an altitude as low as 10m (30ft) and at a speed of Mach 2.8, three times faster than the US-made subsonic Tomahawk cruise missile. The Russian Navy plans to equip the ship with six BrahMos missiles.

Propulsion

"Gorshkov will be the only Russian combat ship to be equipped with BrahMos missiles."The frigates will be equipped with combined gas turbine and gas turbine (COGAG) propulsion systems. The two cruise gas turbines and two boost gas turbines will be connected through two shafts.

The COGAG propulsion is more efficient than combined diesel and gas (CODAG) and combined diesel or gas (CODOG) propulsion systems. The COGAG system delivers more economical transit at cruise speeds. The propulsion system will provide a maximum speed of 30kt.

Aircraft

The Gorshkov class will feature an aft flight deck and hangar to carry advanced Ka-26/27 helicopters. The helicopters are fitted with radar systems that detect and track submarines.

[h=2] RUSSIAN HELICOPTERS OPEN REPRESENTATIVE OFFICE IN VIETNAM[/h]
Hanoi, Vietnam / 7 December 2011 – Russian Helicopters industrial holding company, a subsidiary of United Industrial Corporation Oboronprom, have opened a representative office in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. One of the main goals of this opening is to gain access to broader markets, search for new partners and new cooperation modes in Southeast Asia and Australia.
As one of the rapidly developing countries of the region and a long-time partner of Russia, Vietnam is an important aviation market for the holding company and a firm foothold for further development of business and the popularisation of Russian rotorcraft in Southeast Asia.
The first and foremost tasks of the Vietnamese representative office are to support Russian Helicopters activities in the region and to promote helicopters and parts delivery, leasing, and maintenance services to the regional and international markets.
"Southeast Asia and Vietnam in particular are traditional buyers of Russian rotorcraft. We are constantly in touch with partners in this region, and this is one of the key directions of the Russian Helicopters marketing strategy. By opening a representative office in Hanoi we will be able to establish an aftersale support system for rotorcraft of Russian make that will be very accessible and comfortable for operators in this region. I am confident that this step will lead us and our local partners to a new level of cooperation," Russian Helicopters CEO, Dmitry Petrov, said.
It is noteworthy that Russian Helicopters has been proceeding with its programme to create a global support network based on certified MRO centres and joint ventures across the world. The holding company supports rotorcraft throughout its entire lifecycle, from customer delivery to scrapping. New centres are being established and existing ones are undergoing certification in various regions around the world.

Over 300 Mil and Kamov ("Mi" and "Ka" branded) helicopters are operated today in Southeast Asia and Australia. The fleet of the Republic of Vietnam numbers over 60 rotorcraft, constituting about 50% of the total civil helicopter fleet and up to 90% in the military segment. These include various modifications of civil helicopters, such as the Mi-8/17, Ka-32, and the military Mi-24 and Ka-28.
The Russian Helicopters representative office in Vietnam is situated at: 8[SUP]th[/SUP] floor, VIT Tower, 519 Kim Ma Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi. Phone: + 84 123 526 8947.

So, the Russians are back!

Reaction from China? Any?

It seems everyone is trying to contain China.

I am surprised that China has adopted a sudden aggressive stand, even before she has established herself militarily, that is causing her all her woes and stopping her triumphant march in exercising her hegemony!

What in earths name make you think a few helicopters is gonna worry China? Russia has been selling advanced weapons to India for decades. I cant recall China ever object. Why should it worry now? Are you saying some helicopters is gonna change the balance between China and Vietnam? It is pure business. Containment got nothing to do with it. Russia sells weapons to China too. Does that means Russia tries to contain India and Vietnam? ROFL

Can China be contained by selling some helicopters to Vietnam? If not, then why this sentence:
"It seems everyone is trying to contain China."

Well, I thought \the Chinese loved to say things with illusory example.

Now what is a spring?

It is a small hole in the mountain through which underground water flows.

This water brings a stream.

The stream joins other streams and become a rivulet.

The rivulets join to become a river.

The river joins that then flow into the Ocean.

Got that?

Added a video too so that even if the language is a problem, the visuals would amply be vivid!

China should be worried with the rejuvenation of Russian interest in Vietnam.

It appears that Russia too is keen on helping the US to 'contain' China.

I don't think Putin agrees with your observation.

Though dated, the strategic equation between Russia and China has been mentioned rather interesting by Andrei Piontkovsky, who is a Russian political scientist and Executive Director of the Center for Strategic Studies in Moscow.

China's Threat to Russia

Last week, Russia and China held joint military maneuvers in the presence of both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Hu Jintao. But a new strategic alliance between the two countries is not likely, as it is China that poses the greatest strategic threat to Russia, although many in the Kremlin seem blind to this as they rattle sabers at America and the West.

Indeed, China officially considers several regions in Russia's Far East to be only "alienated" from it. China's territorial claims on Russia are often noted in Chinese grade school geography textbooks, which include a number of Russian Far Eastern regions within China's borders.

This is consistent with the Chinese strategic concept of "vital space," which includes all spheres of a state's strategic activities, on land, at sea, under water, in the air, and in space. The dimensions of "vital space" are determined by a country's economic, scientific, technical, social, and military capabilities – in essence, its "total power." According to Chinese theorists, the "vital space" of great powers extends far beyond a state's borders, whereas the "vital space" of weak countries is limited to strategic boundaries that do not always correspond to the borders of their national territory.

Today, China has territorial claims against 11 of its 24 neighbors, including India, Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines, in addition to Russia. In China's relations with all of them, the potential use of military force was and remains an important factor.

In September 2006, China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) conducted an unprecedentedly large 10-day exercise, involving the Shenyang and Beijing military districts, the two most powerful of China's seven military districts. Shenyang abuts the Russian Armed Forces' Far Eastern District, and the Beijing district shares a border with Russia's Siberian Military District. During the exercises, Shenyang units advanced 1,000 kilometers into the Beijing district, where they engaged in joint war games.

To military observers, the Beijing/Shenyang exercises seemed to be practice for a possible offensive operation against Russia, because exercises on such a scale are undertaken only at the final stage of a multi-year program to train troops to enact specific strategic and operational plans. The geography of the exercises, and the offensive nature of the tasks undertaken, leaves little doubt that Russia was cast in the role of "potential adversary." Such a show of force is an ancient, traditional Chinese political technique.

Paradoxically, these exercises were undertaken during a period when bilateral political and economic ties appeared on the surface to be at their highest point. Russia has an important place in Chinese geopolitical calculations, as a supplier of both modern weaponry and energy resources needed to continue its modernization. Therefore, the Chinese are doing everything possible to strengthen their economic and political position in Russia, and to draw Russia into their sphere of influence.

And China is succeeding, most importantly by consistently reinforcing Putin's anti-American and anti-Western agenda. While Beijing/Shenyang exercise should have indicated to Russian leaders that China's intentions toward Russia may not always be benign, Russia's political and military leadership seem not to sense any threat; on the contrary, they continue to sell the Chinese advanced weapons.

Russia's current diplomatic tilt, indeed, is clearly against its own long-term national security interests. China will never be interested in Russia's economic and political modernization, for it prefers Russia to remain a source of mineral and energy resources and a vast "strategic rear" in its looming challenge with the United States. Likewise, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which just concluded its annual meeting, is in China's eyes a tool of regional policy that helps strengthen China's influence and control over Central Asia's natural resources at the expense of Russia.

No nation threatens China's land borders. China can solve its domestic problems, such as separatism, by itself. China is militarily self-sufficient and needs military cooperation under the SCO framework only in order to free its hands if any conflict should arise that affects its interests.

In fact, conflict between Russia and China is possible precisely in Central Asia, given the clear differences in the two countries' economic and political interests in that region. Aside from control of the region's energy supplies, water has become a potential source of conflict, given China's serious shortages. Yet, while the Chinese clearly understand these contingencies and are preparing themselves to deal with them diplomatically and militarily, the Kremlin remains myopically obsessed with the phantom threat of America.

Thus, as the Kremlin dreams of re-establishing its domination over what Russians refer to as the "near abroad" (Ukraine, Belarus, the Baltic countries, and the other post-Soviet states), China is increasingly looking at Russia as its own "near abroad." Will the Kremlin finally wake up to this?

Thirty-six years ago, Richard Nixon and Mao Zedong turned world politics upside down, as both America and China realized that it was the Soviet Union, and not each other, that posed the greater threat. Vladimir Putin needs his own "Nixon moment." Alienating the West is a foolish strategy when the greatest long term threat to Russia comes from the East.
