Didn't understand the mention of Gotland class submarines. Are Kalvari / Scorpene class submarines similar to Gotland class?
NO.
Those are two different subs.
But it's just to explain that a top class navy can be afraid about SSK.
And Scorpene is a newer sub than Gotland, and DCNS has more skill and experience than Kockums, so Scorpene is probably even more potent.

A Gotland class "sunk" a USN carrier in a mock exercise.
The article is stating that both the Kalvari and the Gotland are of the same type: a.k.a Diesel-Electric Hunter Killer implying that the Kalvari will be effective against carrier battle groups.

That's why it's plan B. And will only be implemented if talks with France for strategic partnership fails which most likely won't. Govt is waiting for Safran to deliver jet engine technology and ready to use Kaveri engine once it's done and French govt gives nod for SSN technology help with Barracuda the flood gates will open with 200+ Rafales, 3-6 Scorpenes, and many more things. Actually France will be able to ride on Indian economy for next 30+ years with order book worth a 100 billion dollars.
Strategic Partnership talks can't even begin until the MoD releases the f*cking SP chapter of DPP-2016, it has been over a year now and these bufoons have STILL not released it- thereby holding up many strategic projects.

Will happily come when our over talked Jootley sir sits down and does the work rather procrastination which he is know for .. We need a separate RM how can a man be given two of the top most Cabinet post s Defence and Finance both are such crucial for the country and that too someone who is know to be busy with fighting his own legal battles in the court apart from the minister s job ..

Parrikar before leaving said the Strategic partnership plan is drafted and ready and will be released in fortnight s time now more than month has passed ..

Well to be fair Parrikar took over a year to draft this chapter when it should have been ready over a year back but yes now Jaitley is back as part time Def Min these matters will drag on for the forseeable future.

Defence is taking a backseat in the NDA term sadly.

Of course defence is in backseat under UPA and now under NDA for sure .. The priorities of NDA are very simple do things which attract the masses and get the votes so that safely they can reach shore in every election after elections .. I will not be surprised if the SP for DPP won t come even before 2019 .. or may never come at all if NDA don t come back to power again in 2019 ..

God only has to save this country s people from the Ministers and their Babudom in the MoD and the few chiefs of armed forces who also don t show any urgency in the defence modernisation ....

A dutch breach is a section of the hull designed that can easily be cut out to allow access to the machinery spaces. Only conventional submarines will have it.
Normally shipyard use dutch breach to remove the diesels and for some other things and weld it back once the job is done.

Dutch breach is normally above the engine room on a submarine.

I won't jump the guns too hastily, maybe the leadership onboard have also done a great job ... and the machine was utilised to its good potential.

Thanks for the answer !!!

Why only on a conventional sub?
A SSN has to renew it's nuclear core also... and maybe change a pump or condenser or...

Well the main purpose of dutch breach is to remove diesel, hence it's only on conventional.

For nuclear I will have more info when I will have my next training session. My trainer's boss use to teach about nuclear submarine reactor in US navy for 30 years.
