Tejas has nothing so special (it's just the truth. No offense). And as it is THE iconical Indian aerial program, We expected the efforts to be faster and more visible.
Digital Fly By Wire that the Dassault denied selling to us was developed totally indigenously completely. At that time it was very cutting edge. This is something that even SAAB could not do for its Gripen.

Though the Tejas as a platform in tail-less delta configuration is a simple design but technologies that have gone into it like carbon composite etc are still cutting edge. Considering it's our first fighter of this complexity it's not less to be not proud of.

Sorry this is my last OT here in this thread. No more talking about Tejas in Scorpene thread.

I was just saying that between the LCA program lauch date and the entry in (limited) service, india spent two to three more times than the others. So I expect it will not be the case for your AIP.
You forgot that US had sanctioned India. If not, then (forget Mk-1) Tejas Mk.1A would have been developed some years ago, if not Mk 2.

No that is not the main reason. Main reason is bureaucratic hurdles and sabotage and unwillingness of DRDO to sort of issues.

What unwillingness of DRDO has to do with Engine & software procurement in that era, Which is being referred by @Superdefender ..
The whole project delay can be summed up as mis-management rather than any technical challenge. US sanctions did not delay project more than 2 years. Tejas flew in 2001 and still under testing for last 15 years. US do not come in way here. It is a gross miss management and unwilling to attack and solve problems.

MK-2 is a design with greater capability just like Mirage- 5 was to Mirage-3
Mirage 5 was a mirage 3 without radar !!! so just a bomb truck ! It's not a nice comparison.

Beter to compare Mirage 2000 mk 5 or 9 with previous ones.

Mirage V was an improvement over Mirage 3 in terms of range and payload and that was the whole point. IAF Tejas MK-1 has shorter range over proposed version of IAF MK-2.

In France also, Mirage 2000 came first with M53-5.
You are losing context in which this example was put forth.

OK, but at the price of a much lighter attack system (day use only, no radar).
Again point was the improvement in desired areas, so comparison. Change to better examples if you like but idea was conveyed the first time.

Because you are missing the context it was spoken in. IDF needed more range and payload (though it came at the cost of removal of certain avionics) so they developed Mirage V out of Mirage 3. We need range and payload of Tejas to increase so we are developing Tejas MK-2. But it does not mean that we will also remove avionics. In fact. MK-2 will be a significant improvement over MK-1.

Indian Navy gears up to induct more submarines, warships in 2017

Khanderi is the second submarine of the Scorpene -class submarines, which are being constructed at the Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd.

Mumbai: The Indian Navy’s Western Naval Command is set to induct more warships and submarines in 2017. According to naval sources, submarine INS Khanderi will be set afloat this month. Khanderi is the second submarine of the Scorpene -class submarines, which are being constructed at the Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL). MDL was earlier planning to set Khanderi afloat last month, but the plan was postponed in the wake of the mishap involving the Brahmaputra-class guided missile frigate INS Betwa (F39) that was undergoing a refit at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. Two personnel were killed and over a dozen were injured when the INS Betwa tipped over during an undocking exercise.

Further, the first Scorpene- class submarine INS Kalvari is also likely to get commissioned in March this year. Earlier, the giant submarine was supposed to get commissioned into the naval fleet in September 2016. But being an indigenous submarine, it was put through several trials, which took a lot of time, said naval sources. The submarine has of late added another torpedo to its armoury, the sources added. INS Kalvari is armed with six 533-mm torpedo tubes that can deploy SM-39 Exocet Block 2 anti-ship missiles.

Commenting on the capacity of INS Kalvari, an official said, “Even though it is powered by diesel, the 67-metre-long submarine, which has a 6.2-metre diameter, has been designed to minimise noise and act with stealth in war theatres. A specific technology — an air independent propulsion system — will ensure that it stays underwater longer.”

INS Kalvari will get Brahmos too !?

The Scorpene will also have the Exocet (French for ‘flying fish’) SM39 that can be launched from its six 533 mm torpedo launchers. Built by European missile-maker MBDA, the high subsonic 4.7 m long, 350 mm-diameter, 655 kg AShM has a range of 50 km, can attain speeds up to Mach 0.9 and can carry 165 kg high-explosive conventional warheads. Though launched in a watertight VSM (véhicule sous marin) capsule through the torpedo tubes, once in the air, the missile b ..

That;s highly impossible....you can't fit Brahmos in torpedo tubes...you need to change the tube design
