In R-Day message, China tells India don't fall into 'trap' laid by U.S. - The Hindu

feeling threatened by Obama's visit, no doubt :pft:
China has offered to lift its strategic partnership with India to a "higher level," and prompted New Delhi to avoid a "zero-sum trap" that was being set up by Washington and its allies.

In a message, on the occasion of 66th Republic Day, to President Pranab Mukherjee, his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping expressed China's willingness "to make concerted efforts with India to lift their strategic cooperative partnership oriented to peace and prosperity to a higher level".

The felicitations coincided with the New Delhi visit of U.S. President Barack Obama.

An article on Monday that appeared in the Global Times and People's Daily, cautioned India, not to fall into the "trap" that was being laid, to pit New Delhi against Beijing, by Washington, as part of its "pivot to Asia" doctrine.

The commentary noted that "the second visit by a sitting U.S. President to India, the first time on record, has undoubtedly drawn wide attention from the international community".

It added that many Western media reports "have pointed out that the U.S., regardless of historical complications, is putting more efforts into soliciting India to act as a partner, even an ally, to support Washington's "pivot to Asia" strategy, which is mainly devised to counter China's rise.

In a further elaboration, the daily pointed to the West's "ulterior motives'' to frame the "Chinese dragon" and the "Indian elephant" as natural rivals. "The West is egging India on to be fully prepared for "threats" posed by its large neighbour.

Considering the fact that both sides still have territorial disputes and will probably have wider engagement at many levels, this so-called rivalry between India and China will not stop making headlines in Western media."

However, it cautioned India that it was facing a carefully positioned "trap". "Although craftily set, it will be revealed eventually."

The daily advised both countries to put aside their "debates over specific issues," and ensure that "their relations cannot take a life-or-death struggle as a foothold."

"The common interests they share are way larger than any differences. As both are emerging powers, which have the huge potential of being important forces in the international community, China and India should see more space for cooperation instead of contention. This agreement is fundamental to bilateral relations.

The article counselled Beijing and New Delhi to "come to terms with a bottom line of interactions, making sure the big picture remains intact, although both sides still have disagreements on some specific matters," and steer clear of a zero-sum game, that India, under Western influence was "sliding into".

Diplomatic sources told The Hindu that India's diplomacy is pursuing a "multi-vectored approach" that is geared to promote New Delhi's core interests, through simultaneous engagement, in carefully defined areas, with several countries, which may have problems with each other.

The "zero-sum trap" caution would have been valid if China gave us reason to trust it. While Xi was enjoying our hospitality, his soldiers were infiltrating into our territory.

ha ha ha first pakis and now chinese......getting heartburn. by the way we Indian know the perfect place to put Chinese advice, because it looks like Chinese forgot both their place (which is either a scrap yard or:toilet:) and they forgot the foreign policy of India which is by the way far more matured than Chinese.

If the article is from Global Times , We should ignore it. My impression of Global times is that it exists to provide an alternate view point from what CCP does and says. We know all well that nothing comes out without CCP's approval. Global Times sole existence is to keep all parties happy, Just so that nobody can say that CCP is biased.

Maybe.
But could it be that GT is used to send out messages that they can not officially do ? :hmm:

In any case, "The Hindu" has manipulated the headline a little bit.
Below is the original article link:

India wants peace and stability in the region. India's core interest is IOR and S.Asia. The recent developments like Nuke submarine docking at Srilankan port and Chinese intrusions are not helping the cause of strengthening the bilateral relationship and building confidence between the two giants.

No one wants their domination to be challenged by two powers rising in the east. But it is wiser for the two nations to identify their main concerns and address them so that the region will remain peaceful. There is no "zero sum game" in diplomacy and there is always space Every country will balance their diplomatic relations these days and want to diversify, as this is not cold war era where nations are firmly in either of the two blocks.

India considers China as one of the engines for its growth, the vast market in China presents many opportunities for India. It is wiser for India and China to establish good trade relations so that both India and China win at the same time.

NO, Chinese didn't ask your trust. Instead, they just remind you that American is not better than Chinese on credit history.

While Xi was enjoying our hospitality, his soldiers were infiltrating into our territory.
And India soldiers were infiltrating into Chinese territory at the same time.
After all, that is a disputed territory claimed by both sides. Until both sides settle their border, it is legitimate that both sides soldiers get into their "own" territory.

Did we ask for your advise? If not than MYOB. They tried Pakistan to contain communism. Than China against USSR. Both the nations broke their trust. They found a nation with common goals and no desire to illegally occupy foreign lands, respect for democracy, protect the patents and burning desire of a new visionary PM who wants the best for his citizens. If Americans betray us than it will be their loss.

not sure why it is not said that the PRC and India attempting to get closer with USA together. perhaps India can suggest a tri-lateral assemblage with USA and PRC.

PRC and India have a lot of common economics and benefits to work together.

Economic relations are happening otherwise. Trilateral assemblage is a very hard to digest concept for PRC.
PRC wanted to keep away USA not just because of the multipolar concept nations envision but more than that PRC wants to keep the capitalism far far away from its shores to preserve the communist model of administration.

Capitalism with free flow of ideas will disintegrate the Chinese Commie Gods control over its people and state infrastructure.
USA can force PRC to liberate its market, administration framework, investment portfolio etc etc.which are not good for communism also PRC will become more transparent.

India on the otherhand has experienced its share of all ideologies and philosophies through its vibrant democracy. It has taken what it can ..stalled whats not compatible and rejected what it cant. With its collective experience and psych it has chosen wisely. India has evolved through trial and errors, so its diplomacy works in a more conductive way rather than high handedness.

Chinese are in a dilemma they formed alliances with failed states and over estimated their
Capabilities. Now with a little economic pain they are starting to realize they are not a
Contender to USA or even close in the slightest bit. Economically or militarily.
