New Delhi: When Delhi's Law Minister Somnath Bharti insisted that the police raid a home in his constituency where drugs and sex were allegedly being trafficked, the cops accompanying him refused. They said they didn't have a warrant, and couldn't break the law.

So the minister, aided by some residents and supporters, accosted four women from Uganda. At least two were forced to go to hospital and undergo drug tests.

Before that, "one of them was not allowed to go to the bathroom and was forced to urinate in public" said noted lawyer Harish Salve, who has reportedly decided to represent the women in a police case they filed today against "unknown persons."

The women tested negative for drugs at the hospital, and the minister has been accused of illegally detaining them and forcing medical exams on them. (Does AAP owe an apology for the raid? Vote here)

"Here is a minister who is vigilant, trying to serve his constituency... at a place where he needs to be praised, people are trying to condemn him," AAP leader Ashutosh told NDTV in Mr Bharti's defense.

A woman from Uganda, who was among those surrounded by the minister and his mob, shared what happened on Wednesday night.

She told NDTV that she was headed home with a friend from a party when Mr Bharti and his group forced the cab to pull over.

She alleges that they were beaten by the men.

"They were not wearing a uniform. They were beating us... they beat me in my eye... they beat me wherever... I thought they were going to kill me. After that they took me to the police. The police helped me very well," she said.

However, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wants the policemen who refused to cooperate with Mr Bharti to be suspended. But the city's top cop, BS Bassi, has responded that his men did their job, and must not be penalised. Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has ordered an enquiry.

In the Law Minister's constituency, some residents say they support his action.

AS Sikander, who is a member of the Residents Welfare Association, said, "For years, we have been begging to our politicians to come to our help. Only Somnath Bharti came when we called and that too in the middle of the night."

So whats the solution guys??? Gandhigiri? Perhaps AAP should give flowers to those African prostitutes and druggist and request to stop it and go to some Ashram.

No one is questioning the super corrupt Police but pouncing on AAP.

This is what these foreigners want ie. Indians fighting among themselves and they run their racket. :tsk:

Commies themselves are religious nutters. They just call their religion by another name.

I guess you did not read the article before jumping in defence of AAP.
This is not some kind of bollywood,kollywood...whatever movie where the hero common man rises ala Amitabh bachan angry man to fight for the poor gutkha spitting public. What cRAAP.
There is something called LAW, DUE process and search Warrant ... verifying first for culpability of abetting illegal activities ..etc etc...not goondaism. Wil you agree if your neigbhour accusses about you of running a prostitution ring and butt into your house and privacy without any warning and due process.?? waht happens if this building full of girls is just a backpackers building or womans accommodation.Or probably these ugandans are more broadminded and liberal and take boyfriends cigerattes etc outside in public.Indians abviously cannot accept these things. We are pure people who act holier than thou in public and watch porn at home. What is needed is for the action to be done to strengthen the system. not destroy the system by vigilantism. Yes there are powerful people who can bypass the law. But at the end of the day the system should be modernised and made strong enough to oppose this.. It is common man like you and me from this very own society who are the wrong doers as well as the people populating the police. not some aliens from mars.

Meanwhile I am expecting a personal apology from Kejriwal for support this inhumane act. Even monkeys have better society instincts..

Dude... I know this Khirki ext very well and often pass by in night and I often see African girls in suspected positions and definitely doing prostitution.Few days ago a African killed a Kid and ate him, on raid the remains of the kid was found in his fridge.

I am not defending AAP but you seems to be having soft corner for these well known African Gangs doing drug/sex racket.

Sitting in Chennai and commenting about these things based on news report is easy but you can't challenge the real time info which I have.

Warrant, though equally important, is the secondary issue. Primary issue is that no woman can be arrested, searched, frisked etc. in the time between dusk and dawn, under any circumstances.

Definitely go after prostitution and narcotic abusers, but by maintaining proper and legal procedure. This guy should not think himself to be batman.

This was being discussed in other threads too.

Look I condoned Gujarat Police killing Ishrat Jahan on fake encounter because of our dysfunctional criminal justice system.
I condone what AAP did because DP is ineffective to put it mildly.

Has anyone caught a thief in India ? You not only thrash him black and blue, but the cops also join you in thrashing him.

Dude stop preaching these laws etc. I have seen these rackets busted without warrants based on locals complaints.

What you are doing is what these Africans want to cry of "women" card and evade. the so called law.

Unless and until a strict action is taken in time these Africans would do riots in Delhi and elsewhere as they did in Goa.These drug/sex rackets is a dangerous cocktail and needs to be stopped asap.

I am not challenging the real time Info if that is what you claim to have and is true. But what you say is still accusations like the village rumour network in the old days where khap/panchayat justice was given out without any solid proof. Throwing around accusations like saying that my niegbhour stole my eight cows in a village in older India is meaningless if you want to develop a modern nation with a functioning justice system. If what you say is true how long would it have taken a LAW MINISTER to take a search warrant from a local magistrate in the morning and wait till evening and go ALONG WITH THE police support before raiding.??? INSTEAD the minister was more interested in going with his local army and MEDIA VANS.
I can sit in Chennai and use logic. No need to sit in Delhi for that. I function in the same INDIAN society that you do too
BUT for one of the main accusations DRUG USAGE-
After all this DRAMA it appears that there was NO DRUGS FOUND in the system of these woman after medical examination.
ARE you now going to say the AAP knows better medical examination than any hospital

Let the Law Minister face flak for having the gumption to go after criminals. I am sure the people of Delhi would be the best judges.
