India Wants to Link Its Rebooted Fighter Jet Tender to Future Stealth Fighter Development

The Indian Air Force reportedly is set to formally reboot its plans to purchase nearly 115 fighter jets within weeks, but it may tie any final contract to a demand that it also receive technical assistance for its domestic fifth generation fighter project. This decision would seem to confirm ongoing reports that India is not happy with the progress of its existing stealth fighter deal with Russia, might again give Lockheed Martin an upper hand since it is already building the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, and could just further complicate the already protracted attempts to get any new aircraft.
On March 11, 2018, The Hindustan Times reported that India would begin sending out official requests for information to companies looking to submit bids on the fighter jet tender by the first week of April. In February 2018, it emerged that the India Air Force would halt an existing plan to buy 114 single-engine fighter jets and rewrite the requirements to open the deal up to twin-engine designs, as well. The revised deal will now include the winning firm to transfer potentially sensitive technology to support the Indian military’s fifth generation fighter program, known as the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft(AMCA).
Lockheed Martin is the only competitor actively producing a fifth generation fighter jet, the F-35, which could give it a leg up again in the competition. The Maryland-headquartered company had already made a particularly appealing pitch in the last iteration of the competition, stating that if its F-16IN won, it would establish a joint production line with Indian manufacturing conglomerate Tata to build jets for the Indian Air Force and use that same domestic assembly line to churn out additional aircraft for export elsewhere. On top of that, it said it would consider working with Tata to build Viper components even if the contract fell through.

You might need an update on that:

Don't miss bus on new semiconductors
By Saurav Jha Mar 8 2018

Besides making massive investments into silica-based semiconductor fabrication, China has also been strategically active in the development of non-silica semiconductor materials, including Gallium Nitride (GaN), which is already revolutionising power electronics for cutting-edge aerospace and defence applications in the West and is set for wider use in data centres, electric vehicles and consumer devices. In fact, Chinas efforts in this arena have already led the US, which currently leads the world in GaN technology, to actively stop Chinese acquisitions of Western firms involved in this space.

India, which let the entire silica-based semiconductor revolution bypass it and is still struggling to get a Silicon Carbide (SiC) foundry off the ground, today has a golden opportunity to not miss the new worldwide wave of GaN semiconductor development.

In this context, reports suggesting that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has decided not to fund a Rs 3,000-crore expansion of an existing engineering-scale GaN foundry at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, because of the risk involved in pursuing this new technology, and MeitYs desire to prioritise silica-based fabs to cater to existing civilian electronics requirements, are troubling, to say the least...

Of course it's a waste of time, because it was clear that you can't back you claims up, since there is no official info on MK1A or MK2 specs, just as I told you from the start. :biggrin2:
Just to evade after getting beaten black and blue. This is really funny!

So the words of an ACM(retd) who says on record that Tejas MK-2 will be the vicinity of Mirage 2000 not enough for you?

For Crying like a kid do you even know the fact that the official specs in true detail of any weapon are never released to the public?

Closing comments: Try harder not impressed at all.

Tejas MK-2 vs Mirage 2000 in words of ACM(retd) at 12:15

Lol you are the one that keeps failing to back up your claims about MTOW, that's why you came up with this nonsense of an Air Chief that is not part of the MK2 development AFAIK and that still doesn't give any specs. "In the vincity" :pound:

You really made my day!

And you are telling AM(retd) Vinod Patni does not know when he says that MK-2 will be in the vicinity of Mirage-2000? Is that what you are saying?

Certainly, an AM goes on record on national television comparing MK-2 vs Mirage-2000 is far more connected and informed than anybody here.

Well, you made a complete ass out of yourself! As always!:bounce:

Acquisition of Russian S-400 by India will curb military cooperation: US. Air defence system will inhibit ability of militaries to operate together, says US House Armed Services Committee.

They have now lost the Indian fighter market. We cannot compromise on the s400, as there is no equivalent western system. Secondly, we can't just throw away our relations with Russia for fake democratic propaganda of "Russian interference" just because Hillary lost. Just buy more rafales directly till we reach 110 units. It makes no sense to have yet another fighter type in the Air force that does not offer any capabilities that the Rafale doesn't and which isn't much cheaper either.

USA would never have given any ToT either. The way to deal with USA is to first ask for specific ToT beforehand. If no, then simply ask them to fuck off. The way of USA keeping people on the edge by "maybe tomorrow" attitude must be seriously discouraged.

That's what GOI did by signing S-400 deal. India just said FUCK OFF to US and Drum..

US plan was to sell weapons and make India fight with China so both get detroyed and US continue to rule the world... India, China and Russia are the only countries which can challenge Uncle, so made a nice sinister plan but alas mature modi and xi jinping meet opened new avenues....

INTERVIEW: ‘The F-16 Gives India Great Leverage In Defence Diplomacy

As Boeing Defence’s former man in India, Dr Vivek Lall was the visible campaign chief for the F/A-18 Super Hornet in India’s erstwhile 126 Medium Multirole Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) jet contest, a contest that spiraled out of existence and resulted in India contracting for 36 Rafale jets with France’s Dassault Aviation. the campaign for the F/A-18 was one of the most aggressive during the contest. But while the Super Hornet didn’t end up making the cut at the time, Lall is still credited with Boeing Defence’s major early successes in India, including contracts for C-17 and P-8I aircraft. After a stint at U.S. firm General Atomics, best known as makers of the Predator family of combat drones, Lall now leads the F-16 campaign at Boeing’s rival, Lockheed-Martin, giving him the unique distinction of having led two separate fighter campaigns in India.

Responses from Lockheed-Martin and five other entities are expected to be submitted to the Indian MoD by July 6. Lockheed-Martin’s F-16 Block 70 enters a prospective contest against Boeing’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, Dassault’s Rafale, Eurofighter Typhoon, Saab’s Gripen and Russia’s MiG-35, an identical pack to the earlier contest.

Responses from six manufacturers are expected to be submitted to the Indian MoD by July 6. This six aircrafts which are to participate in IAF quest for 110 new fighter jets through MMRCA 2 are:

1) F-16 Block 70
2)F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet
3) Dassault Rafale
4) Eurofighter Typhoon
5) Saab Gripen and
6) MiG-35

In a nutshell exact repetition of MMRCA 1 a decade ago.

Really can't understand why the f**k IAF wants MMRCA 2.0? Why don’t we procure 114 Rafales directly instead? If we loss the chance now, we will repeat mistake (blunder) of 1980...When Mirage-2000 were to be made in India.
