    The Ilyushin-76 was also built at Tashkent, Uzbek SSR. The factory, named after Chkalov, was relocated to Tashkent during WWII, and used to be the largest aviation factory in Central Asia, and one of the largest in the world. That factory has gone bankrupt after the collapse of the USSR. Some Ilyushin-78s (variant of Ilyushin-76) bought by India were made at this facility.

    so in short or laymans terms what is the diffrence between existing IL-76 with indi9a and this new IL-76MD-90A ?

    1 - All digital production and design documentation and engineering environment.
    2 - All new engines (PS-90A instead of D-30KP-2).
    3 - Modernized wing with better lifting ability and ready to carry longer and wider fuzelage (for Il-76MF project for VDV).
    4 - All new digital avionics, navigation and targetting systems.

    well i meant was how much more tonnage it can carry with respect to in compititon with likes of boeing c-17

    Il-76 and C-17 are different cargo class planes.
    It can cary 50 tons apon 76 tons (max) and 56 tons (standard) for C-17.

    sorry to keep you bothering respected sir but if IAF wants to go for a few heavy lift cargo jets what should be best option this new version of IL76-MD-90A or C-17 if the standard requirement is of say 50-55 tonne ?
