Bengaluru Police Commissioner M N Reddi, while stating that prima facie it appears to be a suicide, said the dog squad and the forensic science team has been employed to rule out any other cause for his death.

"As things stand, it appears to be a suicide, and I cannot say anything more as the investigation is still on," Reddi told press persons outside Ravikumars' apartment, adding that no death note has been found as of now!

Neither the police, nor the family has been able to point their fingers at the exact reason for a probable suicide. Ravi, who is not known to leave office during duty hours is said to have reached his apartment as early as 11 am.

However, the news of this death only came to light by 6pm in the evening, after his wife and family's efforts to reach him through the day were futile and they reached the apartment and used a duplicate key to get in.

D K Kusuma, his wife has been inconsolable and Reddi said: "The family has not been in a position to answer our questions and quite naturally. So I will not comment on that at this juncture. But prima facie there is no room for foul play."

"His wife and him stayed in the Tavarekere apartment five days a week and stayed with their relative in Nagarbhavi for two days. On Monday, he had left for office from Nagarbhavi," a senior official investigating the case said.

He said that Ravi had not even eaten his lunch which was sent to him and that's when his wife and family got suspicious. "They then tried contacting him and upon not being able to reach him, they decided to go to the Tavarekere house," the officer said, and Reddi added that the police presently have no information about who visited his apartment today.

"The forensic team is yet to determine the exact time of death. We will know that in a couple of hours, as of now it could be anywhere between 11am and 6pm," he said.

Ravi, who had become extremely popular as the deputy commissioner of Kolar for his work in ridding encroachments and other "honest" works, was recently transferred to become the joint commissioner of the commercial taxes department.

Answering a specific question relating to Ravi's problems with work and other matters pertaining to his duties, Reddi said: "...No the information that he had met me a while ago is incorrect and at this time we have no information about him having complained to his seniors about any problem."

He, however, said that the investigation will look into all matters. And for this, the police have formed a special team led by DCP South East Rohini Katoch, who is also a (medical) doctor. All senior police officials, Home Minister K J George and City in-charge minister Ramalinga Reddy visited the spot soon after they learnt of the incident.

He took on land and real estate mafia in and around Bangalore,

RIP Ravi, he was a fantastic officer who believed in government making profit so that it can benefit common people through social welfare schemes. Mix of capitalist and social reform. Very few think in such a away.

Heard a lot about him and his superb work in Kolar, may you rest in peace.

Many of these "honest" officials are introverts and arrogant in real life. Many of them have absolutely no social life and suffer from depression & loneliness.

I will not jump to conclusion so soon.

    Condolences to his family.

Seems very suspicious. I hope this is important enough for a centre led investigation to find the truth.

regardless of how he passed, If India keeps losing commited, honest and talented people like this our community will never get anywhere. It's so rare to hear about an Indian civil servant being so valued by the local community nowadays.

To the contrary the guy was known to be a helpful and down to earth person, popular with the `aam admi`. In his earlier posting @ Tumkur the town was closed as a mark of protest when he was transferred in October 2014. His suspicious death was a direct consequence of having refused to bow down to demands of powerful ruling party minister to change the tax amount to be paid. Ravi had in his short career (2009 batch IAS) locked horns with sand mafia, land mafia and increased tax collections as a result of his strict following of rules.

    Loss to the nation.

Three guys have come to Ravi home saying there are from commercial tax office and need to meet him for taking signature.
This is a pre planned murder from one of the minister? Polonium poisoning like sunanda pushkar tharoor

A big scam proof he had which he thought to release the documents soon and the value was 2000 crores plus
max, Prestige, Brigade, big bazaar, central, Embassy Golf links etc

One developer shows IT property value is 735cr but purchased 4000 acres of land its value only around 2000cr.

Preliminary report says D K Ravi's lungs are compressed. It appears to be a planned murder. Hope CBI takes up this case.

Embassy golf is owned by Home minister of Karnataka and Shoba developers is also indirectly owned by Congress minster.

The handling of the case does indicate that there is some involvement of bigwigs in the Karnataka Govt.

By the time Congress CM handovers the case to CBI, DK Ravi cremated body would be eaten by termites & no forensic expert will be able to extract anything from the body.

The body was cremated with full state honors on the same night hurryingly, this shows state governments urgency to close the position. First postmorterm report is yet to be published.

Its a well planned & executed project by Khangress team & i suppose this will be a good case study for all political & management students.

Remember Aarushi case? Doctors performing autopsy must have cut off and preserved the viscera, parts of kidney, lungs and liver may need arise.

It seems the Congress govt at Karnataka has done this. D.K. Ravi was reported to be working on another big case that would nail Congress MLAs. Sadly he was silenced. Anyway RIP.
