soon Russian lobby will justify it............

Looks like Russians paid so much money that they had to cut the quality standards.

I did not understand from this article a couple of things. This is a proven SAM system produced since the 80s. The article further states that the test was for a missile which will also be used as an Air to Air Missile.

Could somebody please shed some light, I am quite confused on this.

I agree, there is something we don't know. SA-8 is a proven system, and if it failed, it has to be either due to lack of maintenance, or they must have been modified for a different role, perhaps. Who knows?

Missiles often fail. As per a CAG report almost half of R-77 failed to hit the targets. Taiwan had a similar failure with their MICA and HAWK SAM in recent exercises.

It is not DRDO developed missile that failure should be the norm. It is purchased and paid for system... then why pay for it ??

For doing that you should put a clause in contracts with russia saying that we want a refund for every missile that fails. And ask them to pay for the damages if in war time the failure of this missile leads to spectacular damages on our side.

    Can you do that?

Our paid for aircraft carrier sits in russian yards blowing it's boliers idling 10 percent of it's active life in russian shipyards. Our Klub class imported missile fail to launch from kilo class submarine.

A lot of imported stuff like T-90, invar missiles, SA-8 come to us in monkey versions and junk status , but we are ready to pay through the nose with our precious foreign exchange reserve , while we call our DRDO lovingly as DERDO. Like they say as people get the government they deserve , we get imported junk that our attitude to home grown stuff deserves.

Has anybody gone through the article completely?
Line One of the article states

The only logical conclusion to me from this article is that it was a missile from DRDO which used the SA 8 launcher for the trials.

Missile propellants decay, the chemical characteristics change over time. In a tropical and humid climate like ours this deterioration accelerates. A lot of live firing is conducted very close to the shelf life of the missile, so as to make good of the system which would be unsafe/unfit for use after a few months. As a result the failure rate of live firing in service is much higher than the failure rate during development and procurement testing.

Wrong conclusion. DRDO operates the missile range at Chandipur, hence their presence.

No for a system which has been with the forces for such a long time, will not be undergoing routine trials at Chandipur.

Ok, believe what you want to. Chandipur range is where all the telemetry equipment needed for tracking SAMs and targets is present. That is where Akash was tested, that is where AAD and PAD are tested, that is where Astra is being tested.

They paid so much money that sub standard weapons were pushed in for IAF. The same IAF has big nose of Tejas BTW.

I wonder if recent IAF exercise Iron fist at Pokhran exposed this missile system otherwise it is been inducted for many years by now; not to do user trail with DRDO.

But the status of chinese stuff will be much worse. If they fire the missile in the direction of LADAKH they may fly towards their camps in Tibet, Since they operate a double monkey version of Soviet stuff bu stealing and blindly copying. Indian defence planners too know this. And that is why everyone is taking it easy on Indo china border, knowing both sides gain nothing in case of war.

really do you believe this stuff that you have just written above.

The reason why everyone ( in your words) is taking it easy is because our troops do not have the infrastructure to quickly pump in troops and equipment. The Chinese have already made their moves and they are making us jump through the hoops.
