a air force without the support of powerful indigenious aircrat industry will always wear out in weeks in a really war.
The Indian Industry is also fast developing, we may have the production lines for LCA tejas, MCA, MMRCA and FGFA a few years later.....:2guns:

A few years? India will be lucky to have the LCA in production in a few years, nevermind the others.

Which AF would that be, in case you do not realise, most of the parts of planes in InAF are produced in India, and Russia can churn out enough parts to meet the required demand.

The days of second world war where a air war went on for more than a year are long over, and neither PLA-AF nor In-AF has the capability to take out each others airfields, radars and missiles in a modern short war.

Pilots might be more important than the planes.

It will be easier for InAF to maintain a quality edge over PLA-AF in the coming decade by aquiring more developed tech. from foriegn sources (with local production), although due to the slowest bureaucratic system in the world it keeps on failing to excercise the option, the trouble will only start when PRC starts to lead the world in terms of innovation (2030-50?).

Is there a more modern PLA bomber/cruise missiles carrier project?

They could certainly copy and improve the tech for more recent Soviet designs (structure, engine and all). Russia would be more than willing to help.

Is it a question of already available production.

In 1914, all majors powers including UK, Germany,France, Russia and Aust-Hung thought that the WW I would be over before the Chrismas day of 1914.

In 1941, Japan thought that USA would have to negoticate peace with Japan ,after USA's pacifc fleet was almost destroyed completely in the Pearl harbour event.

you are talking of real old armies fighting over vast lands.

Offensive action by PLA-AF would be concentrated over the battlefield, they lack the capability to penetrate deep into enemy teritorry and do the damage.

KuKu, the idea that India maintains a technological superiority as of now in AF is a myth.

I give you some quotes:

"The sale of 126 combat planes to the technology-starved Indian Air Force will be the world’s most lucrative fighter jet contract in more than a decade."

"India is on a spending spree to update its largely Soviet-era weapons system."

Air Superiority is a concept that does not exist here in this region, perhaps you should have a look into that.

In our region a MiG-21 fixed with a missile is a good intercerptor.

In you introduce something like the USN into the region, then yes it does exist, however not with the current players.

In terms of technological superiority as i said the option to supercede the neighbourhood has not been excercised, however it will remain a option for a long time to come.

That includes China also......
no one here deny it.

China's basic tech such as material and machining are still decade behind USA, Japan and EU.

however, We have set up most modern R&D infrastructures that can match USA's and EU's ,during the past decades.
We also have trained enough intellegence and talents.

besides, we also has the support of enough fund.

we have full confidence to surpass USA,JApan and EU before ours kids graduate.

The same applies to India also....

Do a search on google, plenty of information available from karlo kopps website to wiki.....

Try the ausairpower website, it has a lot of detailed information about PRC sam network.

Air Power Australia - Home Page

And try this wonderful blog
IMINT & Analysis

But in the end remember, PRC is a closed nation, no papers no information about the systems is easy to find.
