Hyperloop

What is the Hyperloop?
The Hyperloop is a concept proposed by billionaire inventor Elon Musk, CEO the aerospace firm SpaceX. It is a reaction to the California High-speed Rail system currently under development, a bullet train system that Musk feels is lackluster, as it will be one of the most expensive and slow-moving in the world.
Musk’s Hyperloop consists of two massive tubes stretching between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Pods carrying passengers would travel through the tubes at speeds topping out over 700 mph. Imagine the pneumatic tubes people in The Jetsons use to move around buildings, but on a much bigger scale. For propulsion, magnetic accelerators will be planted along the length of the tube, propelling the pods forward. The tubes would house a low pressure environment, surrounding the pod with a cushion of air that permits the pod to move safely at such high speeds, like a puck gliding over an air hockey table.

As Elon Musk struggles in acquiring land rights for testing his audacious Hyperloop project in the United States, India has emerged out of nowhere to offer him a helping hand.

India is offering Musk's SpaceX a big chunk of land and permission to do the required testing in Pune, a city 118 kilometers away from Mumbai. The country's Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said he made the proposal to Hyperloop's parent company SpaceX during his recent visit to the United States.

“I just offered them ... they want some road for experimental purpose. I offered them the westerly bypass of Pune connected to the Express Highway. The idea is they can take an experiment between Mumbai and Pune as a pilot project," he said. '”It is up to [SpaceX] to decide whether or not to accept my offer,” he added.

If Hyperloop manages to materialize its commercial plans - and bring it to India — it would enable people in Mumbai to go to Nagpur in 35 minutes, Gadkari said. In comparison, the same 800 kilometers trip takes nearly 14 hours by train.

The Chief Minister of western Indian state of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, added that his state government has also asked SpaceX to develop the product and then test it in the state.

With Hyperloop, Musk has a vision to change the way people travel between cities. One of the biggest hurdles for his superfast train, which uses air for propulsion and runs along magnetic tracks, has been convincing local governments and dealing with politicians to acquire land rights.

Earlier this year, Hyperloop Transportaion Technologies announced that it had signed an agreement with the government of Slovak Republic to explore building a Hyperloop system that connects Bratislava with Vienna, Austria and Budapest, Hungary.

All the problems of deep space travel, bought down to the surface of the planet, such that you can travel about the speed of a bullet within a couple of cm of a gun barrel.

Hmmmmmmm................ interesting.

https://www.motoroids.com/interesti...irst-line-to-connect-amravati-and-vijayawada/

We were as astonished as you probably are right now when we first got to know about it. Sure, the government was talking with the concerned officials, but not in our wildest dreams did we think that it would be initiated so quickly. In a shock release that hit our inboxes today, we got to learn that Hyperloop is indeed coming here to the land of anemic 40 kph trains. HTT or Hyperloop Transportation Technologies will launch India’s first Hyperloop connecting Amravati and Vijayawada. HTT has signed a historic Agreement with the Government of the Andhra Pradeshto connect the city centers of the two cities.

The MoU marks the first agreement in India for the new transportation system, and will turn a trip of over one hour into a 5-minute ride. In addition to the transformation it will bring to public transport, the Public Private Partnership (PPP) with funding primarily from private investors is expected to create over 2,500 jobs.

During Phase 1 of the project, HTT will conduct a six-month feasibility study commencing in October. Working with partners in the public and private sector, HTT will analyze the surrounding cityscapes to create the best route between the two cities while identifying all pertinent stakeholders in the region. After conducting the initial six-month feasibility study, Phase 2 of the project will construct and build HTT’s first Hyperloop in India.

The State of Andhra Pradesh is the seventh largest in India with a population of over 50 million people. Connecting these emerging development regions with ultra-high-speed transportation will establish this region as a leader in technological innovation and sustainable development.

The APEDB along with Government of Andhra Pradesh will assist Hyperloop Transportation Technologies Inc. (HTT) with all regulatory requirements and develop and implement hyperloop in Amravati.

“We are extremely delighted to have entered into a MoU with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to bring the HTT Hyperloop to India,” said Mr. Bibop Gresta, Chairman & Co-founder, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies. “In partnering with Andhra Pradesh, HTT will work with local stakeholders to build the regulatory standards necessary for safe and efficient operation.”

Mr. Krishna Kishore, Chief Executive Officer, Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board said, “Major cities of the world has seen declines in livability and transportation has been a major contributor due to congestion, air pollution and accessibility and Andhra Pradesh is shaping the way it approaches transportation in the future. By collaborating with Hyperloop, Amravati is embracing a prototype for the mobility of tomorrow” he added.

Aviruk Chakraborty, advisor to the Economic Development Board, says, “Climate change is an inevitable reality, human race has to embrace technology that will stabilize green house. India has ratified the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol that commits countries to contain the emission of greenhouse gases, reaffirming its stand on climate action. The step towards implementing the Hyperloop is India’s commitment to Kyoto Protocol. India is entering into a new era in terms of technology and our goal is to put India on the global map by developing and implementing green technologies, the first Hyperloop in Amravati.”

Hyperloop is not a mature design, Bullet train is ..
Bharat can either wait for some foreign country to test it and then bring the revolution or it can do itself. See a Bharatiyan startup which is aiming to provide Hyerloop transportation.AFAIK its even in in talks with Gadkari. We need to take risks to survive.

Why should Bharatvarsh ( Proper naming ) should put money in something untested and too risky design for sensitive business routes
Please read the edited part, IMO in the next 20-30 years Bullet train would become the norm than as many Asian countries would have it alongside Bharatvarsh. Then when a developed nation like USA or China would provide Hyperloop transportation to its citizens it would greatly benefit from it (Hyper loop right now is more cost efficient and one can imagine what would happen when it matures). Then after 10 years Bharat would start replacing HSR trains. We need to be future proof. WE NEED TO TAKE RISKS!

Bharatvarsh ( Proper naming )
How is Bharat not a proper name?

Someone here suggested me that Bharatvarsh is proper naming ..

The designation Bhārat appears in the official Sanskrit name of the country, Bhārata Gaṇarājya. The name is derived from the ancient Hindu Puranas, which refer to the land that comprises India as Bhāratavarṣa (Sanskrit: भारतवर्ष, lit. country of Bharata) and uses this term to distinguish it from other varṣas or continents. For example, the Vayu Purana says "he who conquers the whole of Bhāratavarṣa is celebrated as a samrāt (Vayu Purana 45, 86).".

Why should Bharatvarsh should put money in something untested and too risky design for sensitive business routes, As for Gadkari, We are lending them land to test their designs, Profit for us ..

Read post no #4

===============

This is the future not science fiction ( Read post no #4 ), This design is already operational at economical scale ..

Govt does not work that way.. Gadkari is just one level of many decision making steps for taking a govt decision.

Hyper loop will not survive feasibility study, as of 2017.
