Xiamen-Shenzhen high-speed railway to be operational by year's end

Following the Longyan-Xiamen Railway and Fuzhou-Xiamen Railway, the Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway, another important section of the coastal railway artery in China, is expected to be operational by the end of 2013.

According to relevant departments, the construction of the long-awaited Xiamen-Shenzhen high-speed railway is, against all the odds, moving forward smoothly and trial runs are expected by this September.

The 502.4km-long rail line will link 2 special economic zones in China, Xiamen and Shenzhen, starting from Xiamen North Station (厦门北站), running though Zhangzhou (漳州) where it will join the Longyan-Xiamen Railway line, before calling at Chaozhou (潮州), Shantou (汕头), Puning (普宁), Shanwei (汕尾), Huizhou (惠州) and finally Shenzhen North Railway Station (深圳北站).

With a designed speed of 250 kilometres per hour, the travel time from Xiamen to Shenzhen by train will be shortened to 3 or 4 hours from the current 11 hours upon its opening.

Xiamen is poised to become an emerging railway hub which integrates 3 high-speed railways in China's southeast coast.

China railway invests 21 bln yuan in Jan, up 70.9 pct

According to data released by the Ministry of Railways on February 16, railway sector fixed-asset investment for January 2013 was 21 billion yuan, remarkably up 70.9 percent year-on-year (YoY). Of the total investment, 14.2 billion yuan was invested in railway infrastructure, up 62.3 percent YoY.

Market participants believe the achievement of the 650 billion yuan investment target for 2013 can be anticipated.
