(The world prepares for Ramadan: The ninth month of the Islamic calendar, when Muslims around the globe refrain during the day from eating and drinking, begins July 20.)

What’s on the table for Ramadan? Plenty.

If you were expecting kebabs and more kebabs, think again. Food served during the Islamic observance is as diverse as the Muslim world itself. Ramadan, which lasts one month and falls on July 20 this year, focuses on spirituality and inner reflection, with observers fasting from just before sunrise to sunset.

The structure of Ramadan (ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar) is fairly simple. Two main meals are eaten, often with the family and with friends — “suhoor” before dawn, and “iftar” just after sundown. During the day, observers take in nothing — no food or water — although there are exceptions for people who can’t maintain the fast for health or other reasons.

The month ends with Eid-ul-Fitr (eed-ull-fitter), sometimes a big feast and other times a more humble affair, where friends and family often get together to share food and celebrate......

Its usually pronounced Ramzan by Persian/Central Asian speakers and Hindi-Urdu speakers in South Asia, Bangladeshis who can't pronounce the Z sound say Ramjan

The Arabic pronunciation is Ramadan and that is more popular in the West as well.

suhoor is food eaten at dawn. In India people call it sehri a Persian/Indic variant of suhoor

Iftar is break fast food eaten after sunset

Wet dreams are involuntary so to speak so if that happens, then it doesn't break the fast, you can just have a bath and continue your fast. Having sex however is restricted during the dawn to dusk. Its based on the expectation that you can't have sex "involuntary" and if you do during the day, then the fast is broken. Some people have asked if its restricted for the entire month, but its actually just during the fasting period. So you can have sex after sunset if you want. :)

Now thats ridiculous. Why waste? There are people hungry. Why should food be wasted irrespective of how rich you are?

Whats your solution then? Controlling the amount of food they import/produce eat? May be make a law to make them donate food to hungry and poor? Is it not infringement on personal rights?

Besides, I dont really think people there are psychopaths who want to waste food just for the sake of wasting it so that none of the Hungry people around the world gets food.

    All of us waste food.

Besides food never goes to waste...it always ends up in someone's stomach whether that be a dog, an insect or worms.

I feel man should be more humble. Humility teaches respect for everything. Respecting food is a thought inculcated in all religions. All religions consider food to be god. Will you disrespect your god by wasting it? That is what I meant.

Cooking food by killing an animal and feeding that animal to another animal is unnatural. Even a tiger kills only when he has to. He never wastes his energy in killing and not eating it. Of course the scavengers depend on the tiger killing a prey. But it does not mean every creature out there is a scavenger.

Take your share and no more. Only if this would be realistically possible!

I do not disagree in essence to your point of view but the huge brain homo sapien has been blessed with has made us a virus.

I guess this belongs to Veg Vs Non-Veg argument.

An animal CANT GROW a crop and feed itself. An Animal has to depend on other animal or vegetation and thats how this universe is created. Humans are intelligent and capable enough to live on veg food.

Let's not derail the thread by veg/non-veg or "Is there any God" ... let's learn info/facts about Ramadan.

Question, since when did we care about what is Islamic or not? Their tradition their culture, their way of life.

We start policing their food now, then we will start policing their incomes and welfare;)

    All subjective.

Then again, the tradition of the people to make such a big amount of food so that they can eat from it may be there. We dont even know the significance or tradition behind it.

AS I said before, if we start policing their eating habits, we will be policing their incomes and economic distributions. There is no end to that madness once it starts ;)
