Hindustan Shipyard delivers 53,000 Deadweight tonnage ship to GML

The Hindustan Shipyard Limited here is on the verge of a turnaround after overcoming many of its problems, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command Vice-Admiral Anil Chopra said while handing over m.v Good Trade to the Chennai-based Goodearth Maritime Limited (GML) at a function here on Friday.

Vice-Admiral Chopra appreciated HSL for completing the 53,000 DWT ship, the third diamond series bulk carrier, in 22 months and expressed the confidence that the yard would deliver warships as well as merchant vessels on schedule in future.

There was a lot of scope in the country for building warships and merchant vessels, he said and saw a perceptible change for the better in the HSL.

The association between the Navy, the Indian Coast Guard and the HSL would be of mutual benefit, the ENC chief said.

It was a proud moment for the HSL to deliver the vessel, its 167, in 22 months, said Chairman and Managing Director of the HSL Rear-Admiral N.K Mishra and assured that the remaining vessels in the series would also be handed over in time. An inshore patrol vessel was delivered to the Indian Coast Guard in January and the remaining four would be built and handed over on schedule.
