Opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh on Friday launched a scathing attack on the state government following Allahabad High Court's stern observations on the Samajwadi Party (SP) regime's move seeking permission to withdraw cases against two suspects of 2006 Varanasi serial blasts which had claimed 25 lives.

"We welcome the Allahabad high court's strong observations on the state government that if any government withdraws cases against terrorists it would amount to encouraging terrorism. This step of the SP government needed to be condemned thoroughly by all", leader of opposition in the Assembly Swami Prasad Maurya said. Maurya further said it only goes on to prove the "goondaraj mentality" of the SP government.

Kalraj Misra, senior BJP leader, said his party has been opposing it ever since the government's intentions in this regard became clear. Misra questioned the justification of such a move and said HC has rightly made strong observations against the state government.

Pradip Mathur of the Congress said the issue here is not of any petty criminal or an innocent who has been wrongly implicated. "This concerns terror charges", he said asking how relaxation can be made in the case of terrorist, dreaded gangster or a criminal.

The court while hearing a public interest litigation challenging the Akhilesh Yadav government's decision to seek a review of charges against Waliullah and Shameem, suspects in the blast at Sankatmochan temple had said "you are withdrawing cases against them, tomorrow will you give them the Padma Bhushan?"

The Akhilesh government had earlier written to the district magistrates of Lucknow, Faizabad, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Rampur, asking if there was sufficient evidence to prosecute suspects in the 2006 serial blasts and other terror attacks in the state.

In its election manifesto, the ruling SP had promised to review charges against terror suspects to prevent the harassment of innocents.

Appeasement of criminals has touched new level in this nation. Many nations spend money of rehabilitation of criminal but in India it has touched extraordinary dimensions.

You are forgetting that SP is a secular party and opposing them against letting the terrorists scott free is communal BJP......Which makes Padama Bhushan for Jihadis a secular act and I'm sure in coming times the leftists will ask for the same!

I think that appeasement politics will surely take away the moral grounds on which reservation is provided. it will certainly prove fatal in long run for the country. sociologically "reserved-class" ( what so ever they may be ) will become a stigma for them in long-run if this appeasement is kept-on for being exploited.

No wonder UP is a mess - keep voting for goondas and criminals based on caste and religion and forget about good governance or development or even two square meals for people of UP. Aur vote karo SP-BSP.

India is becoming increasingly a banana republic dynasty politics,no vision for the state, weakening of internal security when you have such conditions no need for China or Pakistan to attack.

The point is that instead of really strengthening secularism these actions instead reinforce the radicals in all camps.

These so called politicians are playing a dangerous game I hope one day the rule of law will overcome vote bank politics.

I think Judiciary needs to invent a new "Doctrine" to enforce the "rule of law". Define Secularism in true sense and get rid of these Dirt-grade politics .
